I got my new guitar neck in from Warmoth the other day and it is KILLER!

I love the scalloped fretboard! Bends are so easy! I have not really noticed any speed improvments but the notes do seem clearer. I have not had one problems switching from a regular board to a scalloped one.

This is seriously the best neck I have ever played!

Neck-
Rosewood w/ ebony board.
Schaller Locking Tuners.
Fatback Profile.
Jumbo Frets.
Strat Style Headstock.
25 1/2quot; scale.
Unfinished.

The guitar it is on is a Warmoth VIP (PRS style) body.
Swamp Ash w/ carved Mahogany top.
SD p-90(n)/Dimebucker (b)
Tune-o- matic bridge and tail piece.
Chambered.
2 volume controls/ 3 way toggle
Dunlop Strap Locks.

It sounds great and its SO easy to play! The best purchase I have made in a long time!

I use GHS Boomers .009-.42 and its tuned down 1 step. (To help with the low end as I do not have bass guitar in my songs.) The strings are not floppy at all.

Its the perfect guitar for my setup.

Here is some pics.

Nice axe!

What do those pickups sound like together?

Also, stupid non-metalhead question: I've heard of amp; even seen scalloped boards before, but never played one. What exactly is the purpose of it??

Thanks amp; again, nice looker!!!

Thanks for the compliment.

When used together they sound warm and cut through very well.

Basically better note bending and some say faster playing. I didnt notice in changes in speed. I got it so I could bend farther and so I could push down on the strings to get different bend sounds.

And actully I don't play metal. It more of a 3way between Pink Floyd, Billy Corgan, and Jack Johnson. I will admit my guitar does have a strong metalvibe, but I play the farthest thing from metal.

Thanks again for the compliment.

That's a real interesting guitar you've built up there. Very cool.

Surely 9's tuned down a whole step sound like rubber bands?

Weird guitar. What was the point of having a mahogany top over swamp ash if it's painted a solid color anyway?

That is what I thought but it has a really nice string tension. Originally Posted by XeromusWeird guitar. What was the point of having a mahogany top over swamp ash if it's painted a solid color anyway?

For the sound characteristics.

wait is it a leosmith caster or a stratosmith or a prstrat? i'm just as confused as the guitar is lol...it's having a bit of an identity crisis . it's actually pretty damn cool though!

thanks for the compliment! im not sure what guitar it is... its just Dee.

How's the back of the neck feel? I'm thinking about doing the same type of neck without the scallop. How's the rosewood sound?

I like it a lot! I think it is more comfortable than there fatback. It feels almost like a v back shape but bigger. Very easy to play. The rosewood sound extreamly full with out being muddy. With this neck on I can get some Santanaesq solo tones. I like it.

wow i didnt know that warmoth selled scalloped boards. does the scalloped board make the neck sound any different? or is for mere playability? how does the scalloped board feel when you are chording, i.e., a full barre chord? whats the neck radius? lol sry for all the questions, i was thinking about getting a scalloped board on the guitar i plan on getting in january.

Questions no problem.

If there is a sound difference it would be a slight differece. honestly if feels like you are playing on air. bends and vibratos are very very easy. notes seem more clear. its there compound radius. i have had no trouble so far switching from normal to scalloped even with chords. you would have to have a very heavy fretting hand to have any trouble.

good luck,
edm

What about the texture of the unfinished rosewood on the back? I'm trying to imagine what that'd feel like.

Also, is that brazilian or palisander rosewood? I love the dark color.

i believe its palisander... i think that is what they use on there full necks.

it feels very smooth. a little like unfinished maple. its really hard to describe.

I can't really describe what it is about it that I like so much - it's actually not quite as smooth as the satin finish on my Schecter, but for whatever reason, it just seems extremely comfortable.
