Well I'm looking for an acoustic guitar. I want something that sounds good for jamming with my friends and home recording purposes and that is not too expensive. I don#8217;t care about name brands as long as it#8217;s affordable and it sounds good. Oh! And easy to play. I'm not looking for an acoustic-electric really I figure I will spend more on guitar and pop in a acoustic pup if I ever need to go electric with it. Also I will be transferring schools sometime soon and I don#8217;t want to haul all of my gear with me.
So hit me with what you got!
Thanks,
edmPs- are those Fender Telecoustics anygood?

My opinion, get an Ovation. I have a green-tinted-quilted-maple Celebrity CS247 Ovation and I love it. However, the pickup is piezo, so there's your dilemna. I know SD rules, but not everything has to be SD :P
Walden. Chinese, but you can't tell it by playing them. Unbelievable quality and playability for the money, IMO. Dependent upon which model, I would take the quot;for the moneyquot; qualifier out of there. They're great players and extremely rich and full.

I use to have an Ovation 12 string... it kept falling off my lap. I'm not totally against a piezo at all... I just figured I would spend more on the guitar and not worry so much about the pickups in it. Originally Posted by HamerPlyrWalden. Chinese, but you can't tell it by playing them. Thanks for that suggestion I will have to check those out.
Anyone else got anything?
get an ibanez talman TCM50 they cost $400 AUS, thats under $300 american. They are made in china but quality is still good. The pickup doesn't even need to be replaced its good enough. They look great, and the body is thinner then a normal acoustic without losing to much sound. They play better then any acoustic under $600, I can play iron maiden solos down at the 15th fret easy just like playing my electric.
from what I'm reading on harmony central and on their web site may be what you (and me) are looking for...
i dont know if it counts as affordable but the ebst acoustics ive played are taylors. Even the 1000 dollar low end models smoke everything in its category. If i want an acoustic it has to be a taylor for me, for me in my opinion it just hits home.
For affordbality i would look into larivee acoustics they are made in canada all wood construction, maple binding i think and they run as low as 800 canandian or so i think. Whihc in american is pretty cheap.
just thought i'd add, my friend owns a fender stratacoustic, and its well..terrible... dont buy it, its not worth it.
In the sub $1000 range I'd look at Alvarez, Yomama amp; Seagull...they usually have the best bang for the buck. Sometimes you can find something like a Guild D4 or a less expensive Larivee for $400-600 and that's almost always a good call. Look for something with a solid top amp; back...and if you can afford it...solid sides. Really...if you're going to be recording with it get a good instrument. Avoid laminates and anything made of plastic (like Ovations) if you're gonna stick a microphone on it...glue amp; plastic don't sound that great. YMMV but mine hasn't.
I agree with the Larivee's. Still... If you can find a Walden, I think that you'll be impressed. I can't tell you how knocked out I was by them. I was ready to slam them as being typical Chinese crap, and I couldn't have been more wrong.
I would look at some of the lower end Martins. Such as a D15 or OM15. These are all Mahogony Back and sides as well as the top. They have a real good sound Acoustically which is what you really want out of an acoustic guitar. IF you plan on recording, with a good Mike in front of the soundhole it records well. They can be equipped with electronics as well it just depends on how much you want to spend. These can be had in the used market place for around 500 to 700. IMO this will be better than any of the lower end guitars.
Best Bang for your Buck acoustic out there....T-A-K-A-M-I-N-E....imho of course!
If you don't want to spend a lot of cash and get a decent acoustic where you won't freak out if it gets a scratch on it, Takamine or Yamaha. The Ovation's sound horrible unless they are plugged in to a PA. That bowl just doesn't do them justice.
Larivee's are up there, Canada's Martin is what I call them. They are wonderful but can get pricey. Well worth it though. The 15 series Martin's are really nice too but I don't think they sound as good as others in the same price range. To get the Martin sound, you need to spend close to $2k for a D-18 or D-28, or higher for other models.

I appreciate all of the suggestions! I have a few models I am interested in. Just browsing through the internet I found one that interested me, but I can find no info on it except from Music123.com

thanks,

That's a classical guitar (nylon strings). Do you want a nylon string guitar? And it's 7 String. That's gotta be cool. Never played a 7 string classical before.
If they sell Furch in your neighbourhood, try one! They're awesome, at a very competitive price for the quality and the attention to detail they offer.

Yep I know... I'm on the fence if I want to get a nylon or a steel string. I just saw it and I thought it was interesting.

Yeah, it's kinda like that blonde vs. brunette thing. But you always wonder with the blonde if the carpet matches the drapes.
I recently bought a Yamaha FGX 720 SC acoustic electric w/ cutaway for $420 from Samash (don't buy from them!) It has a loud, rich sound, even with the super light strings I put on it. The action came set low and the neck reminds me of my Strat. It is a brown sunburst and has creme binding on the neck and body. The active pickup w/ equalizer sounds pretty good through my Traynor. I really like it!
Here's a similar model from MF
