I'm gonna put a JB in the bridge of a standard strat. What value pot and capacitor should I use? Thanks ya'll.

I prefer 500K and a .02 tone cap.

I tried a JB in my Strat with the stock 250K pots and the tone was to muffled for my tastes.

No, I'd change them both to 500K. Thanks! Lew

I on the other hand prefer it with 250K and a .01 cap. Never had any issues with a muffled sound. I used that set up for much of the 90s.

JB 250K Tune

Here is a tune I did 10 yrs ago or so. Using an Alder Ibanez and a JCM 900 Dual Verb head. Very basic 8 track recording, nothing fancy.

Alot of guys prefer the 250K pots. It's all personal taste. But if you compare the sound of the JB with 250K to 500K you'll find that you're throwing away alot of upper harmonics and sparkle when you go with 250K. Lew

Check out my clip, no sparkle missing at all, to me 500 and a .02 just drives too hard and adds unwanted hash to my sound. Esp at that output in a Strat. I like it a bit warmer.

Just a taste issue no right or wrong. Can you post a 500K clip to compare?

This perplexes me as well. Not to trample on anyones preferences, but I heard so much about the JB being icepick, too bright, lacking bass and needing 250k pots to tame it, but when I installed mine, I actually found it to be warm sounding!! I needed to radically alter the EQ settings on my amp to get it to sound right, and that meant adding more treble and cutting back on the bass!! This is a PRS Custom 22 Mahogany/Maple top BTW, so again.....maybe it all depends on the guitar.

It does depend on the guitar. In a maple body, it's very bright. In alder/poplar, it sounds pretty sweet, pretty balanced to me. I have it an alder strat body now and it's very balanced. In mahogany with or without a maple cap, it's warm as mentioned. The maple cap just brightens things up a bit, but very little. Fingerboard wood changes the tone too. Rosewood will be warmer than maple. Set neck vs. bolt on vs. neck through. There's lots of factors.

Well said..... It was a long difficult decision deciding what to put in this guitar, so I based the decision on the tonal qualities of the Mahogany body/Maple Cap combo. I needed something with some bite and spank.

But again, opinions are what make the world go round, cause some folks rave about the Rio Grande BBQ in this exact same guitar, and thats a real dark pickup IMHO!!

Not that it means anything but I prefer 500k and .02 with the JB as well. Both my Strat and my Ibanez are wired that way with the JB.

I like a 300k or 350k pots in alder.
