...for use with a neck bucker? Now, I will be using a fairly hot neck bucker so I need a pretty stout beidge pickup. I was thinking about a BG-1400 from the Custom Shop or maybe a Hot Tele Stack. Any advise?
Try that custom shop 5/2 stack for Tele and get it wound to your desired output.
Bump for the C-man.
I'd go with a Custom Shop Tele Hot Tapped. Mine is an alnico 2 pickup and the full coil measures close to 10K! Maybe the alnico 5 stock version would be a good call too though...might have more bass and treble which might be a plus when combining with a full size neck humbucker...

Another one I'd think of if you don't want to go via custom shop is the QP. I really liked the Quarter Pound set that I once had (changed out only to change...). It's a true single coil with larger pole pieces and I thought it was pretty faithful to the tele tone-a bit fuller and a bit darker; not as clean and clear as the lower output pickups, and not as bright and sparkly as the Broadcaster, for example. It also had a pretty aggressive bite to it-so it might be what you want if you're looking for a hot rocking tele. It did have plenty of power and was very gutsy/ballsy with a bit of drive. Edgy under more gain. I believe there is a tapped version, although mine was not.
I've not tried either of the other pickups you've mentioned. Stevo has a BG-1400 I believe. I guess the only reason I can think of in going to the stack is humcancelling properties-maybe that will help you narrow it down.
What neck are you using?
Dave
Im kind of leaning towards the Hot Tele Stack right now...not a traditional Tele tone, but maybe it will be cool!
keep 'em comming guys!!!
What kinda tone are you planning to play with your Tele? Dirty?
Got a Hot Tele Stack for cheap if you want it!!!!
ok guys...I need more ideas! The Hot Tele Stack in not out of the question (has anybody tried one?).
I need a tele bridge pickup that is pretty hot...I don't think that a Hot Rails would do it for me...I want it to still have at least a little of a Tele tone, but it has to be able to keep up with a pretty bucker in the neck...give me some more ideas!
I have an STL-2 Hot Tele lead paired with a Fender Atomic II neck HB. The Atomic II seems a little hotter than most PAFs, and the STL-2 is pretty close to matching it in output -- it's easy to compensate for the small difference with a boost or OD pedal for leads, and the difference is inconsequential for rhythm work. The combined tone is particularly nice with strong lows and highs. The STL-2 is a fat sounding A5 pickup, but it retains its Tele-ness very well. If it doesn't do the trick, then perhaps a different neck HB should be considered.
I haven't used the Hot Stack lead, but I have heard one used by Alvin Youngblood Hart, and it sounded mighty fine. However, I'm not sure that it will be as hot as the STL-2. I'd like to know whether the custom shop version of the Hot Tele lead with A2 mags is as hot as the stock A5 version.
Another vote for the QP. It will be able to hang with the neck bucker no problem. It will still also give you some twang, and chime, especially if you get the tapped version.
