Hey there,

a year ago i made the misstake to sell my Ovation Elite 1778.
I'm going to buy one again and like to know if anybody made bad
expirience with the non-US Ovation guitars.
I got a fanatastic offer from my dealer regarding a Celebrity Deluxe CS 247.
The dealer keeps her for me to think about it.
I tested her, she's a little bit brighter and less bassy than the Elite,
i think because of the maple top. The sound and finish is great, the binding
looks well , ...
i'm a little bit worried regarding the production quality, longlifety and things like
neck twist ( lt;- maybe wrong translated?).
What do you think?

thanks
Martin

...

isn't anyone here who tried an korean ovation, because of the price?
however, i will take it

I just bought a Celebrity 12 string about 6 months ago. It plays fine. It had to have some neck work done, because the action was too high, even by my standards, but the cost of that was nominal. It sounds great live, the electronics are more than adequate, though admittedly probably not the best. After my luthier got done working her magic on the neck, it plays like a Taylor, and actually even better than my US made Balladeer 12.

Back in the day I had several friends that were Ovation freaks and one friend that was an authorized dealer. They were Custom Legend fanatics but being weaned on Martin D-28s I never really quot;gotquot; it. Ovations always sounded thin to me by comparison.

A couple of fathers days back mt wife took me to GC to buy an acoustic. I don't get diddley on bdays or xmas but just before our daughter was born I got a 52quot; RCA and the following year a guitar, go figure.

So I'm playing a bunch of different guitars and I kept going back to one Ovation Balladeer Special in particular. It had a great neck and phenominal unplugged tone. I got it out the door for under $600 dollars. It's a very plain looking guitar with no fret markers on the board, just side dots and the sound hole is circled by a ring of darker wood. Spruce top with a satin finish and a mahogany neck. It really does get its look from its simplicity and not from a lot of flash and the tone is round and warm with plenty of volume, probably because it is one of the deeper bowl Ovations.

I've played a few Celebritys and they are generally ok guitars but I find the tone and feel of those guitars to be just a little lacking. If you can get your hands on a Balladeer Special I think you'll feel and hear the difference.

My friend has a lower end Ovation, not sure on the exact model but i can try to figure it out. He's not a guitar player so its not in the best shape, but even with really old strings, it sounds amazing. It was bright, but nothing too bad. Nice neck too. If I ever get an acoustic it'll probably be an Ovation.

I love my 1977 Ovation its freaking sweet. Me and my dad share it though, so he kind of keeps ownership of it. But the Gibson Archtop 1952, O yea, now thats ancient.

I have a celebrity. I don't know the model, but it's probably a lower end model. I got it for $200 out the door including tax. The casing was loose on the volume and tone knobs and it buzzed a bit. It cost me a peice of black tape to settle that down. The guitar sounds fantastic with a new set of strings, but it is a bit more bright than other all wood guitars. It also seems to be more focused in terms of volume. With a good eq, you can dial in the pickup to sound decent and not entirely crappy, but without eq the pickup is a turd. This is a VERY old model. It has a mahogony/rosewood soft V neck and the typical duckbill headstock. Spruce top.

thanks for the replies.
no risk no fun - i think she's worth the money,
so i'll take her and tell you about her, as soon as i
became acquainted with her

As with any acoustics, try before you buy. I've had much luck with my Ovation 1771LX (the redesigned Balladeer). The OP-Pro preamp sounds great (the plugged in tones are simply amazing), the construction is extremely solid (and not temperamental like so many acoustics are), it sounds nice and loud unplugged and there are no construction flaws at all on it. Ovation definitely is doing something right and I'm looking forward to future designs they'll be coming up with.
