well, my tele right now is asian basswood (more high end than american basswood) with a set neck amp; rosewood fretboard
but i have a lot of strat projects I wanna do, so as far as tonal diffferences, what can i expect between the 2 kinds of wood?
Here's a nice quote.
quot; there are differences in basswood between asian basswood and american basswood. The american version is lighter and less dense leading to a warmer overall tone, more balanced while the asian woods tend to be heavier and more dense, transmitting more highs. Of course there will be exceptions to every generality with respect to wood.quot;
ok but what about alder? how does it compare?
bump, c'mon guys
alder is brighter then basswood.
expect more highs and less mid/lowend
Basswood is said to be in between mahongany amp; alder, tone wise. Plus a bolt-on neck is gonna be brighter and snappier. Why not find a Fender dealer and go try a bunch of Strats. You'll see the difference pretty quickly.
well, i used to have a JB equipped fat strat, but, well, i friggin hated the JB. It seemed like it was ALL mids, never could get enough bass response out of it. When i had some dean markley misfits strings on it i guess it wasn't bad, but i dunno, i prolly woulda hated it less if i hadn't switched to earnie ball strings, too bright

I also dislike the JB(that i had in my strat) I dont hate it just dont like it compared to some other pups and I dont beleave it lives up to all the hype it gets.
oops! This was cut off from the first quote:
quot;Alder and ash are typically known as being bright and snappy tonewoods, that's why they are the first choices for Teles and Strats.quot;side note: Misfits are 11-52 IIRC or do they come in other gauges
no that's what i got, 11-52
i used ernie ball light top heavy bottoms though, pretty much the same gauges
i know you guys got more info than this for me
