I currently have a Maxon OD9 (TubeScreamer), bought directly from Analogman with the Silver Mod, which helps decrease the mid hump...Stock true bypass, cost me $205...I mean its a REALLY nice boutique type TubeScreamer pedal...
But lately I have come to wonder if I should sell it and try something new, as I think the TubeScreamer isn't for me...While my favorite tone-man, Trey Anastasio of Phish, uses them and gets great overdriven smooth to harder overdrive, I can't...
I am simply looking for a BETTER overdrive, fuller, richer, singing, sustaining, no tubescreamer mid hump...I want to use it in front of my Marshall variation handbuilt nice head that is being built, and I just want singing full sound for blues (not texas blues like SRV or Billy Gibbons, but SMOOTH blues), jazz, and funk...I want a DEEP, 3D tone, low to medium-high gain tone, NO METAL OR THRASH for me...Must be responsive and lots of harmonics!!!!
So I was thinking, should I sell it and get another, here are some ideas:
G2D Custom Overdrive (has a solo boost)
G2D Cream Tone (has a solo boost)
Xotic BB Preamp
Thanks for any replies, and ask me further questions if you need, as I will return to this thread often...

Though I have not played one myself, I know there are people on the forum that have. The Klon Centaur, apparently these are the best of the best when it comes to Rock/blues overdrive.
And I know Warren Haynes(Gov't Mule) use's one also.

Go for the new Barber Direct Drive.
A really nice, natural OD that's actually pretty dynamic for a stompbox. Cheaper than most any 'booteek' pedal as well.
ive heard only good things about the direct drive. not sure if itd fit ur specs perfectly but the ocd has a great singing overdrive tone to it.
I'd recommend the Xotic. I have an AC and RC booster on my board. Based on those, i'd rec. it
Gosh I hate this choice!! I know I would like all three...
ParaGuitarMedic: I had the AC booster, wasnt blown away...I think the BB may fit the bill perfectly, wonder if it would be less noisy than the AC...
I think the CreamTone may be voiced for single coil SRV stuff mainly, and I already have that tone...
The dual channel of the G2D Custom OD may be awesome though...
thanks for the replies!
