Put a DiMarzio Super Distortion in the bridge of a :gulp: Custom Shop Gibson R8 plaintop?
Or would one be defeating the purpose of buying a Historic?
Discuss
Ceramic mag in an R8? Blasphemy.
I say continue searching for the tone you want from Alnico mags.
Check out all the handwound companies you can find and find something to your liking.
(EDIT: Unless you already have the Super Distortion, won't hurt anyone to try it!)
I think it's a crime to listen to other ppl, amp; not do whatever the hell u want.

Just a question for discussion...not looking for an ultimate answer. Curious about how others view the scenario is all, foamy
well lets face it the guys who originally bought the Les Pauls that the historic was a reissue of (Jimmy Paige for instance) sure did alot crazy sh!t to their guitars
if the tone your looking for requires a Super Distortion in the bridge of an R8 then sure. It's quot;market worthquot; would plumet but if you never would want to sell it then its quot;valuequot; to you would be priceless

well, then stick a 'glow in the dark' Duncan up in that.
1 for glow in the dark pickups !!!!!!!!!!!! they must sound better than a 10k paf

Well.........
Not that it would be blasphemy but it does seem like a waste in some terms. Hell if that is the only thing missing from your perfect guitar go for it.
I wouldn't call it a crime. It's more of an act of stupidity to me.
reasoning?

Understand and fair enough answer. But thats assuming you were buying an R8 for collecting purposes or cos you were going for the Bluesbreakers sound (for example).
What if you just wanted the best sounding (inherent natural tone), best built Gibson Les Paul you could find/afford?
I'm not being argumentative here..just curious how people think..I saw some banter back and forth on the subject elsewhere and had some discussion with some local guys and both sides made good points.
Jeff, the only person I can honestly see putting a Super D. in an R8 on the forum is J.P.
HELL NO...who cares! If you like everything about the gutar except the pickups and you like the tone of a Super D...DO IT...I wouldn't, but whatever floats your boat!
Yank out the ceramic and stuck in an A5 magnet...almost like Eddie did
Go for it!!
And £#8364;£${ all that keep it org stuff...hehe
The way I see it, if you're gonna play it, swap if you want but put the stock pickup away just in case you decide to sell and the buyer wants it.
If you're gonna let it sit on a stand or hang on the wall to look pretty and barely play it, then leave it alone.
Swap away. It doesn't hurt the value as much as people think it does.
Well, if it was me, I'd leave my exspensive les paul alone and play it like it is and put the pickups in another guitar. But theres nothing wrong with putting another pickup in it, just make sure you keep the old pickups in case you ever want to go back, or keep it as a collectors item or something in the future.
