fender japan's take on the squier '51.
Nice.
It doesn't have the tele headstock though, which would be cool.
How much does it go for over there? And what is the quality level equivalent to, an MIM or a American standard?
Hmmm. I've always wanted a Surf Green Thinline Tele with that style pickguard, but I'm not sure I love it on a Strat body. Really the only thing that model has in common with the Squier '51 is the HB in the bridge and SC in the neck. Nothing else is the same. Different headstock. Different fretboard. Different pickguard. Different controls. Different bridge.
listed price is about $750. you can easily knock off 20% or more on the street price though.
mij far surpasses those mim. as for mia, i guess they are pretty equal. i've tried some mia which are lemons. as far as the japanese are concerned, quality control is of top priority.
i agree. shall we call it the fender '69?
Fender Japan has cool ****.
I'll hopefully get my Squire 51 soon... That one looks way better though. oh well. more expensive
slade
I tell ya...I saw one of those Squier 51s a couple weeks back..and I haft admit that is prolly the coolest thing Fender has come out with since the Strat...NEAT looking guitar...
wish they'd make it in a USA version, so I could buy it, rave about it all over the forum, realize no matter what I can't play for $hit on stupid fender bridges, then sell it for a big loss like I do with every other Fender I've owned
That is really nice. I could handle playing one of those.

Two weeks ago, it was $119 with two free gig bags and free shipping. I was teetering on the edge, trying to come up with a mod plan for one. Then I saw this photo:
That pushed me over the edge. I'm going with a pearl that matches the green undertones of Squier's Banana Pudding Blonde a bit more, not putting a quot;51quot; decal on and am wiring up the stock switch to provide series-parallel-split on the single humbucker, but other than that, I'm doing mine up exactly like that photo.Originally Posted by the guy who invented fireWhy don't you just not care that it's not MIA, but it for $149.00 and have a killer cheep guitar!

Cos I still won't be able to play it? Guess I wont feel so bad beating it up against a wall though for $149
Of course my post was a joke, but I saw another one yesterday, and it..errm...def was a $149 guitar..super sloppy. I'd rather pay the extra for better build.
EDIT: When I can, I prefer to buy made in USA products.
Omigod that's cool.
I gotta show you guys my custom guitar, but I don't have decent pics of it. the best I can do right now is this:
It's in the background next to the bald guy...
