Fig 2. The first one won't do anything because you don't have any other connection. The switch doesn't do anything. Also, on Fig 2, you can connect the ground to the lug on the top, rather than the bottom, so that the split action happens when the switch is up rather than down.

I always tend to view those diagrams with the knob quot;upquot;.

btw - You aren't quot;wrongquot;. SD draws them that same way. Its just my own quirk.

Artie, can you split 2 pickups with the same split? I.e solder the proper wires from two pickups on the same lug? It'd mean that when both selected, they'd both be split, but is it possible in the first place? And if so, how to make sure it'd be noise cancelling when both are selected and split at the same time?

Yup. A push/pull pot is two independent switches, with a common handle. Take the top lug of one to ground, and the top lug of the other to the pups hot wire. That will give you the adjustable coil of one and the stud coil of the other. I prefer the adjustable coil of the neck with the stud coil of the bridge but you can do either way.

Ah I see. So the 2 wires that are usually insulated together go to the switch instead of the hot then? Does it change anything about when the pickup is not split?
When I get the Coolrails it'll go in the middle positon of the model 4 and I was wondering if I could split it using the same volume pot as I use for the bridge pickup. But now that I think of it, I have a spare pushpull 500K pot I can use to wire the NECK pickup to it, and split the MIDDLE pickup on it. Ahh that'd be cool. I think it's easily doable too.
