you know...the one that looks like a LP jr with half a headstock and a bad refin...has anybody played one of these? I have a chance to grab one is cherry for very little money, but I have not ttried one and I can't play this one until it gets here, at which point I will be stuck with it for better or worse. You guys help me out.

didn't mind it too much... I still might buy one. Lots of people were bothered by the poplar body, but I didn't mind it. The finish is rough, and you can feel the grain of the wood even on the neck. doesn't bother me but might bother you.

Maybe the only Gibson that's really worth the asking price... I've seen them in the $300 range. I'd miss a neck pickup though.

Never played one, I was never too keen on the idea of a cedar neck. It just doesn't sound very dense as a solid body tone wood. Maybe if it was REALLY cheap, but in that catrgory I think you can do better.

I thought it was mahogany body/cedar neck. I could be wrong though.

The neck is cedar for sure- quot;or equivelentquot;...whatever that means. We all know when Gibson gets foggy on the details it is not good.

well...I think I will just wait on a used one of these!

If you can find one of the pre faded era Specials or Juniors from the late 90's, they have a much thicker body, more like the original models fom the 50's, but they still have (IMO)the better TOM style bridge amp; tailpiece. So you get that vintage tone, and you can play in tune all over the neck. They came in the same colors as the Fadeds, but were gloss finish.

If you grab a Special or Junior off ebay, make sure you get one with real p90's too, for a while they also used those P100's that look the same, but are a stack design with a different sound. Of course being on this site, you would probably just swap those out for some SD's anyway. I think all the P100 eqipped guitars had the thinner body like the Fadeds, but were gloss finish with diamond fret markers instead of dots.

I remembered hearing poplar... could be wrong.

wtf is santa maria... I'd perfer a special or junior, but all things considered, the mm I played wasn't a horrible guitar...
