Basically, while it looks exactly like a logoless SD from the top, and matches photos of other SD EVH's I've seen, it does not have the logo embossed on the back of the pickup.

In fact, it has no identifiable marking at all aside from someone having written EVH in a permanent pen on the back.

I checked a SD EVH on eBay and it had the logo on back and a sticker to match.

Did I get fleeced, or is this acceptable from the SD custom shop. ? Thanks in advance, and nice forum you all have got here.

I'd say you were screwed.

ouch man, I'd think you got hosed...

I think without any sort of logo on it there's no way of it being a SD pickup.... someone got you man.

Do you have a multimeter? If so, check the resistance value. It should be in the high 8k or low 9k range. If it's not, you definitely got ripped off. It should have some sort of identifiable marking on it somewhere, but check the resistance measurement first before you worry.

I thought quot;Wattagequot; bought one new that did not have the engraved logo on the back either. It may be an EVH, check it with your meter bro!

My custom shop pup had no markings on the base plate and it came straight from MJ.

Well, I tested it with the multimeter and it comes out at exactly 9.01K. As it turns out, the guy who I bought it from, recieved the pickup from a very stand up guy who I have done deals with many times before. So I have alot more confidence in this pup.

On top of all this, the seller spoke to Alex at and was told that the early original EVH's did not have any logoing on them due to legal issues.

So I think all is well. Thanks for your help everybody, and I look forward to hanging arround the forum a bit more.

Welcome to the forum paddok, you got lucky with the piccok!

I've got a SD Jazz in my Washburn N4 and it has absolutely NOTHING to indicate that it is an SD pickup. Sure enough though Washburn confirmed that they don't always put their logo on supplier pickups. And it sounds sweet as! So I know it's real!

I can understand your concern though. You just never really know do you? I just bought two Texas Special pickups, one used and one new. I'm combing all over the used one making sure that it's the same as the new one and checking I've not been sent some budget pickup from nowheresville!

I wish manufacturers would make it easier to determine the origin of a pickup.
