Hey guys my first post/question. I have an Ibanez RG 350 DX that I've had for a while. I never play it because I hate the stock pickups. It is an HSH setup. Can you suggest a pickup mix for me? Here are a few of my favorite bands.
Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
Nirvana
Guns'N' Roses
The White Stripes
Pantera
Lynyrd Skynyd
I don't know if this helps or not. I can also tell you I play a little bit of everything, but mostly just blues, rock, and metal.
Can't go wrong with a JB/Jazz setup, as far the single coil goes, i can't really help you make a decision cuz i'm not big on singles, so i don't know a whole lot about them
Thanks flipside. I'll listen to the samples. Anyone else?
Hey Mike; Don't let my post count fool you. I just talk too much. There's others on here that know pups far better than I, however . . . I've come to really like the classic jangly, chime of an SSL-2, (same as an SSL-1, only flat), in the middle of two humbuckers. Split the humbuckers when combined with the single in the #2 and #4 notch positions, and you get the best of both worlds.
Or, go a step farther and use an SSL-6 quot;tappedquot;. On its quot;lowquot; setting, its the same DC resistance as the SSL-1/2, (6.6k). Switch it to full-on, and it jumps to 13k. Its like two pups in one.
Add a push/pull volume pot to split your humbuckers, a push/pull tone pot to tap the single, and you've got one heckuva versatile axe.
Just my 2-cents worth.
