After training 4 other quot;techsquot; to lighten my load at work...I'm finally going to concentrate on my own amps....(geez, Scott F got his amps quot;rockingquot; before I did....way to go bro!... )
So, I've decided on the following, let me know what you think:
Two identical channels, each with...
Gain
Volume
Boost volume..(either master or gain)
Bass
Middle
Treble
Reverb
Presence
Efx1
Efx2
6 position quot;selectorquot; switch to choose from the following quot;amp stylesquot;
Tweed Pro
BF Twin
Marshall Super Lead
Marshall 2203..albeit modded
Marshall 2210..again modded
Ultra High gain.
...these are not footswitchable, rather the two preamps are.
100w EL34 based power section.....with MV regulating from 1 watt to 100!
Two quot;true bypassquot; efx loops...with Send/Return levels..
and one quot;ultra-coolquot; knob to allow from quot;very spongy to very tightquot;..one per channel
Hopefully, this should cover more quot;basesquot; than a conventional dual channel amp.....
There are lots of other quot;goodiesquot;...(quot;brightquot;, Mid quot;shift...etc)
Anything I forgot???.... I trust the opinions here more than anywhere else....
(although, I do apologize to for quot;invadingquot; the site with my personal quot;queriesquot;...some of you know I'm very hesitant about discussing my own quot;projectsquot; on a website that's not mine...) I am very fortunate (as we all are) to have this place!
with much appreciation....

The only feature I would add is two-tone blue vinyl.
...and a sweet price! Sounds like a couple of amps I'd love to own.
wow, that sounds sweet
That sounds so awfully versatile, that it must be awfully expensive as well! Nice anyway!
I've gotten used to my blackface amps-volume, bass, treble, and reverb are the only knobs i care about, and once i get what i like, i just turn up the volume according to the situation. I LOVE the idea of a 'wattage control' that'd be just awesome. Just dial up your preamp sound, then turn down the wattage to get the saturation desired. If this amp could deliver the tone varieties well, plus high quality components, it will be sure to rock.
Does it make noise when you switch the wattage? What will the footswitch control?
This would be my revision to the 6 way
Tweed Pro ......................................... JTM 45*
BF Twin .............................................. BF Twin
Marshall Super Lead ...............................Marshall Super Lead
Marshall 2203..albeit modded................... Vox AC30*
Marshall 2210..again modded................... Modded 2203
Ultra High gain. .................................... Ultra high gain
I prefer the JTM 45 over a tweed pro because it is pretty much a fender amp with a hotrodded marshall flavor, based more on the legendary 59 bassman circuit. It would definitely rock if there's a tube rectifier on board
Though I'm sure the variations in modded marshalls would be great in this amp, it depends on what you aim it to be. Do you want the amp to have a focus on the great modded JCM800's you've done, or would you rather put one flavor of your mods into it instead and use the remaining space to fit in other amps that are sure to grab people's attention. The one great flavor of tone that was left out of your list was Vox, and for an amp that will have such variety, I think that an AC30 tone should be in there for that classic jangle.
Will it have two rectifiers? Will the sponge knob move between tube and SS rectifier sounds?
Sounds like it will be a great amp, Jeff, you're driving me nuts by just giving me a glance at the possibilities.
i have an idea!
this might be silly but...........
can you make an amp that has all that which you mentioned, maybe less, but create a built in dummy load and built in SS power amp that goes to the speakers?
You know like Van Halens rig but all in one box??
So you could hear all the distorted sounds the clean with the benifits of hearing them cranked at low OR high volumes.
can that be done?? All in one box????
i think that alot of people would buy that. i think most of people buy amps that play in their rooms rather than gig them so you would be satisfying a larger market.
i think most people dont do this on their own cause they really dont know where to start and how to put all the parts together.
what do you think???
just my two cents

Put it in a 19quot; and let me know when it´s done, I´ll need a new amp in the not too distant future and this sounds like just what the doctor ordered
Jeff,
Not sure how possible it is, but Lee Jackson does something with his amps so that when you lower the volume on the guitar, the sound cleans up but the volume on the amp stays the same (I think that's how it works?). That would be a pretty cool feature...

???
Every amp I knopw works this way, at least as soon as we´re talking about an overdriven clean channel or lead channel

Not really, when you have a fairly 'gainy' sound and then back off the volume on your guitar to something near clean, the actual volume reduces due to the fact your not hitting the front end so hard.
sounds like a very cool, very versatile amp Jeff...i'm glad the ball is getting ready to start rolling!!!
Great to hear Jeff! I think Quencho might have a point with the lack of a Vox type clean in there, but it looks like you've got the Fender/Marshall flavors covered
I'd love to hear clips and see pics of this beast when you're done
SWEET!
Jeff, I know this has been a long time coming for you brother, and Im truly excited for you!
Keep us al posted...I can't wait for this one. I might have to put all other projects on hold and make sure I get one with a low serial number!!!
This sounds too good!! Can't believe you can get all these tones in one amp. If you do, you'll have a winner for sure. I'll be stoked to try one. May even have to sell my Budda to get one. Can't think of anything I'd add to it. Keep us posted.
This will be a true beast. Best of luck, Jeff.I'd tell you to have fun, but I doubt that will be a problem.

Is this a fader for changing the rectifier? I've always associated that quot;spongyquot; sound to a tube rectifier. The old Marshall bass amps (and others I'm sure) had a fader for the tube and SS preamps- that was a nifty feature.
Was the decision for 100w dictated by using EL-34s?
It really does sound like a killer amp.
Another idea- instead of making an all in one amp, why not make two versatile models that cover the different flavors of tone that you'd want to cover.
My dream 'concept' amp right now would be a 50/40 watt (tube to SS rectifier) 6CA7 tube power stage 2x12 combo, with marshall, fender, and vox preamp stages footswitchable. A bit less complex, a bit smaller, but it would cover alot of bases, and it would be less expensive to the consumer than one MEGA all in one amp.
Man, sounds like it's going to be a killer amp....not something I would buy and use unless I went through a MAJOR stylistic change, but definitely sounds like a killer amp
that sounds awesome jeff. Altought, all I could need is:
1 channel
ultra hi-gain
gain
volume
bass
mid
treble
reverb
presance
but hey, the more(options) the merrier(sp?)

Finally, I get to make it!....
