I have a American Fat Strat (H/S/S) with a TB14 in the bridge and have found the Fender Texas Specials to be a bit muddy when I adjust my amp (Marshall TSL602) to accomodate the TB14. I am looking for more of a vintage strat tone (not so much Texas tone) and output to match the TB14.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks!
Antiquity II Surfer neck and middle. Even though they don't match the output of a
C-5 trem, at least you end up with a guitar that can go from a VH sound to an SRV sound, in one guitar. I've used that setup in HSS strats quite a bit, and it's a 'best of both worlds' situation.
Hi freek; Welcome to the forum.
GearJoneser has a heckuva lot more experience with guitars and pups than I do, but whenever someone asks about an HSS configuration, I can't help but jump in with my current favorite.
Any of the following, in a quot;tappedquot; version, gives you a great match to the C5:
SSL-3 Hot
SSL-4/7 Quarter Pound
SSL-5/6 Custom
The difference between the 4/7 and 5/6 is just flat or staggered pole pieces.
Here's why I like them so much. If you get the tapped version, then a single push/pull pot will quot;tapquot; both the neck and middle pups. In the full-on position, the neck/middle is the predominant sound, with the C5 adding a quot;fillquot;, or tone enhancement to the single. In the quot;Tappedquot; position, the C5 is the predominant sound, with the single providing the quot;fillquot;.
Its a great combo of tones, with the addition of a simple switch.
I love it.
Artie
Edit: And . . . when you select neck amp; middle together, you have the tapped and full-on sounds to choose from. Great versatility.
