Should I also use 500k Pots for a Humbucker Volume Pot?
thanks
Yes. As a general rule, humbuckers should always have 500K pots, unless you're going for a less bright sound, with 250k pots or whathaveyou.
The volume-pot doesn't really affect the tone... it just contols how much of the created signal goes right into ground and how much goes to the output jack...
The volume pot does affect tone. The value of the pot determines the electrical quot;loadquot; that pickup, (a small AC generator), see's. The lower the resistance, the greater the load, and the more the highs and mids are attenuated. The affect is subtle, but noticeable.
You should experiment to find what you like best. I have 250k pots on two of my humbucker equiped guitars.
Even the volume pot? Well ok then... thanks
Only the volume pot. The tone control is different. It doesn't really contribute to the load the pup sees. (Actually, it does, but not in the way we're talking about.) The tone control just re-routes a percentage of the highs to ground.
The volume pot, however, determines how much quot;workquot; the pup must do. There's a thread in the vault, that shows you how to temporarily wire a volume control to act as a variable load. That way, you can hear the affect of it changing, in real-time.
