I want to get an additional 2x10 to add to my fender combo but can't find any mid-priced mass produced ones. Does anybody know of any sites that give some basic details to get started with this?

I remember a while back helping my Dad build a bass bin and the measurements of the cab being crucial to it's performance, so I guess I can't just knock up a cab and stick some speakers in. What about any designs posted online? Something that I could follow the instructions for and just do the all the elbow work, none of the actual thinking/designing.

I'm really interested in that as well...

If anyone else is interested I just found this site:

from : localhost/guy's basically saying that all the sciencey stuff doesn't really apply to open back cabinets, which is good news for me! I have some more questions if anybody has the answers,

What thickness of wood should I use? 1/2', 3/4'?

What wood should I use? I think I've heard a lot of cabs are made from birch-faced ply but I think this is pretty expensive.

I'd be using it with my Fender amp whcih has two 10' Fender custom shop celestion speakers in, what speakers would compliment these? I'd want an additional 2x10 cab, I'm pretty sure of that. Not really into 12's on Fenders.

Any more help please,
Benja

birch ply is actually not that expensive. You can easily get a big slab of 3/4'' at home depot for less than 20 bucks.

Thanks for the link benja! That's a good start...

Took some measurements from my amp today. It's 24' wide. Should I build the cab to the same width or wider? I noticed the speakers in the combo are practically touching each other. Does this make a difference in any way? I'd prefer the cab to be the same width as the combo as long as that doesn't infringe on it's sound quality at all.

What sort of height should I be building the cab? I'm going to put 10' speakers in side by side and thought 15' would allow for the 1/2' ply I'm going to use and some clearance for the speakers, about 2' above and below in theory.

Also does anybody know of any good retailers in the UK where I can get tolex and corner protectors? Speakers are pretty easy to come by but I

Sorry. Pressed enter to soon...

Speakers are pretty easay to come by but I'm still undecided regarding which ones. My Fender has Celestions in so should I stick with the brand? If so then the G10H vintage (I think that's what they're called) look to be a good choice. They're pretty cheap and I don't want to spend a lot of money on it incase I get the whole thing wrong. Should I be looking at other brands as well though? Or is mixing brands a bad idea?

Thanks,
-Benja

If you decide on the Celestions, go to and he'll probably give you the best price by far. If you use different brands, just make sure they are in phase with each other. Sometimes that can be a problem.

Does anybody know of anywhere in the U.K. (or online) where I can buy all the parts I need to build a Fender-like extention cab? I have the wood and I know where to get the speakers from, I just need some help with where to find tolex, speaker cloth, etc.

Somebody here must know, please. I've been searching the net for hours and I can't find anything.

Thanks,
-Benja

I looked around and on avatar's site you can get the wiring diagram for the speakers (not complicated but I didn't know how to do it...) and you get all the measurements and dimensions of their cabs... all you have to do is by the material and go....

That'll be a nice project...

I'm pretty excited about it now. I measured my amp up and got all the sizes I think I'm going to build the cab to. I just can't find anywhere to buy the parts. Is there anywhere in America that specialises in guitar cab building and ships internationally?

Cheers,
Benja
