Well, when my black limba Satch project went belly-up, I started looking around for a guitar to fill the gap it was going to live in until maybe one day down the road I can try again (with another builder of course). Enter forum brother g0gIver... he happened to be selling a 1994 Ibanez JS600. Needless to say I bought it, and it got here today. It looks great, I'll be dropping in some pickups and maybe swapping out the tuners for locking ones today.
That's a smooth looking guitar, man. The jack placement looks like it would feel akward. Have you had to adjust?

Sorry to hear about the limba project. That would have been a sweet guitar.

Sorry to hear about the limba project. That would have been a sweet guitar.Actually the jack placement is great, I always loop my cable through my strap so I don't step on it and yank it out, and this jack feeds the cable there first thing. I love it personally.

I like it.

Never tried a guitar with that placement but it makes sense from an ergonomical point of view

EDIT: Post 666. Doesn't mean a thing to me but I always thought it would be more memorable.

Looks crappy... I'mreally sorry for you that you bought that guitar. But of course you can send it to me to avoid greater evil...

Well, I slapped some Sperzels on it and swapped the pickups. I'm going to start out trying a DiMarzio Fred/PAF Pro setup. I used to have that combo in my Schecter and they sounded great, just a touch too bassy and boomy. I don't think they liked the mahogany body/set mahogany neck, since they are designed for a basswood/maple bolt on neck guitar. I have a few others to try if I don't like 'em in this axe.

Nice man.....but it needs a skunk stripe on the neck!!!! for some reason it looks like its missing something to me if it don't have a stripe.

And the after shots...

Very very nice. I've been looking at the JS-model guitars with gas, but they're a bit out of my price range right now. How do you like the Fred/PAF Pro combo?

You got it!! I would have loved to own that guitar myself. Have fun with it.

Heck yes, I couldn't pass it up, we worked out a great deal. I couldn't be happier, I played it tonight at a jam session and it's definitely going to be with me for a while. The action needs to be raised just a smidgen (like 1/16quot; at the most) but that's my only complaint.

How do you like the Fred/PAF Pro combo?I got to crank it up tonight at a jam session, and I must say I like the pickups a LOT more in this guitar than the set I had in my Schecter a couple years ago. They really just didn't agree with the woods and construction of that axe, but they love the basswood/bolt on maple neck of this guy.

The PAF Pro is very round sounding, especially on the wound strings, and flat out wails on leads. It stays pretty clear under gain, and cleans up exceptionally well.

The Fred is more nasally sounding, and gets pretty chunky. I don't think it has enough low end thump for metal honestly, but it can do anything from funk on up to blues and classic rock very well. I was really surprised by the cleans, I usually don't like bridge pickups running clean very much.

The whole setup is pretty versatile really, I haven't wired them up for split operation yet, but I will soon.

Looks great with the Sperzels and new pickups! Have FUN and Rock ON!!!

Looks really great.

I had GAS for this model of Ibanez a while ago.
Now because of YOU, it's slowly but surely coming
back.

Congrats.
