I picked up a line 6 hd147 head at guitar center's memorial day sale for $400. They regularly sell for $1,249. I bought it just for the investment value and to turn a profit on ebay. But now the more I play it, the more I like it. It's not ALL high gain, the cleans are great and the mid gains are super too. The JCM800 amp model is KILLER!! As for the high gain, you can get some really crushing distortion from this thing. I wish I could keep it, but I need to turn a profit on it. Maybe down the road I might buy one. I was pleasantly surprised by this thing. You can get some really good lead tones after doing some tweaking too, and the effects are great also.

wow thats as killer deal man, your surely gonna make some profit there, shame you couldnt keep it.
They are great amps and have caused me to ditch my tube rig.
Hmm..I played one over the weekend for the first time and really thought it sounded ho hum (?) :shrug: I thought the Marshall models in particular were not so great. I was using the line 6 cab ..don't know if that made a big difference or not. It WAS better than the Spiders/Flextones, but I could still hear that digital quot;glitching/compressionquot; and it just didn't feel as good as say a VOX VT.
The one I liked the best was the Diezel model set to quot;redquot;..I don't know what amp that is modelling but I really liked that setting.
All that said..for that price...DEF a great buy..and def worth twice that...$1200 is pushing it comparitively with good tube amp heads.
The more I play through it, the more I like it. And I'm using it with my legacy cab with vintage 30's and it sounds great. It's not a replacement for my tube amps, but hell it's a lot of fun to play and it sounds a LOT better than I expected it to. I thought it was just a high gain toy for teenagers, but it really is a worthy amp to use. I would use it for practice and jamming to save wear on my other amps, and it's a great recording tool.
Yes, it sounds best with the stock Celestion Line 6 speakers. I have used the vetta(not HD 147) on coutless gigs and I find the vetta smoother than the HD147. I have since sold my old Marshall and my Mesa Dual Rectifier because this gave me all I want and more. I have a good friend who gigs as well with one while his bandmate runs a Jubilee and Mesa Dual Rec. The vetta consistently sounds better at their gigs and the tube dude is no slouch!
I can honestly say I have kissed tubes good-bye.
My friend has one and I jam on it when I go to his house. I really don't like high gain sounds I get out of it, but he uses a beat up randall cab though.
Dude, first of all quot;YOU SUCK!!!!quot;
Second of all, you dont need to make a proffit. You need to pass it along to your brother Odie for the same price plus shipping!!!!
I didn't dig that amp too much, but I didn't really get to crank it. Cleans were really cool for a solid-state amp, for that price though...YOWZA!!!
I thought the same thing the first two times or so that I played it. I was like yeah this is cheesy, I'm just gonna sell it off anyway. Then it was just sitting there shiny like a new toy so I played with it more and tweaked a little and got some killer tones. Much to my surprise too.
I'll pay whatever Odie offers, 10%.....
she's on ebay if anyone wants to take a look. I'm not trying to sell it to you guys, but I mean, there are pictures.

Yeah Mike was the first person I bragged to. lol! I used the money out of my warmoth strat fund to pay for it, and with the sole intention to make a profit on ebay. So I COULD keep it, but I'd have to kiss the project goodbye. I started the auction at about half of what it costs.
heh, on a sidenote, tone ninja made over $300!!
that amp looks pretty freakin' cool with the chrome and purple though...
