Closed the deal on an A8 order with Allstar Magnetics. The salesman (Rob Parr) requested that I put his e-mail in here in case anyone else is interested:

robp@allstarmagnetics.com

The minimum order is $50 so you have to order 9 of them ($5.98 ea).

what size are these being cut to?
same as duncans?
you will need a slightly larger one for the Tremspaced duncans
yes size does matter! LOL!!!
the trembuckers have a ever so slightly larger length to compensate the larger coils

I've bought 3's and 4's from them before -- they get the size right.

And are you sure the Trembucker coils are bigger? I'm pretty sure it just means the pole pieces are spaced slightly wider. If the coils were significantly wider or longer, they wouldn't fit in the pickup ring.

And speaking of Alnico 6 and 7, apparently there is an Alnico 7. Another mag company got back to me on it. They want the dimensions I'm looking for and I have forgotten the numbers on a bar mag. I know they're 1/8quot; (0.125) thick but what are the rest again? Anybody?

I'm quite certain that Evan said one time that there was a pickup made with a7. Maybe I'm wrong? Does anyone remember that thread? (I'll do a search)

I also found this in the Duncan FAQ;

from : localhost//support...d_a_1.shtml#99

Although this might explain a few things...

from : localhost/scitation.aip.org/getabs/serv...cvipsamp;gifs=yes

Does that mean that Alnico 7 is stronger than Alnico 8?

the trembucker is slightly larger,I have owned enough of both regular and trem spaced to know this
you can still use a regular size mag from a regular duncan in a TB series pup
you just have to make sure that both the low e and high pole are making contact
i have a regular size alnico II mag in my custom right now and it works fine

I think so. And probably brighter too. lt;-- edit; the brighter part is still true I think.

Edit: actually the gauss tells how strong a magnet is. The coercivity tells how much it will resist an opposing field. I found this is the Duncan FAQ. Another chart which might be helpful;

Anybody?Duncan lipstick pickups are a6 bar because that was the magnet that was used in the originals. Anyone have a spare lurking around?

from : localhost/-- it appears that Alnico 8 isn't as strong as Alnico 5. Also that there is no quot;Coquot; (cobalt) an Alnico 3. Copper replaces it, though the name quot;Alnicuquot; never caught on.
