Hi there
I know there have been lots of threads about this two, but I still can state a difference between them. People talk very high about both of them and BOSS descriptions are pretty similar. A person that only read BOSS description may think they are allmost equal pedals.
But OD-3 costs 50% more than SD-1. What is OD-3 offering that SD-1 doesn't?
I've got the OD-3, and it's ok as a basic overdrive, but nothing to write home about. I'm ditching mine for an HBE Power Screamer. The wisest will be to buy the SD-1 and get someone to mod it.
I've got an sd-1. Its nothng special, but it finds a good use for me live for solos. Adds a little bit of extra gain, and sits your sound over the top nicely. Also has good variety of tone shaping ability with the tone knob.
Spose youve gotta try out both of them, i dont have experience with any other overdrive pedals.
I've tried quite extensively the OD-1 in a shop. I have to say that seems to me a very versatile pedal. It doesn't colors the tone as much as a TubeScreamer type of pedal. The overdrive it is warm and very neutral which I consider an advantage because it lets your amp and guitar character go thru.
I have heard the OD-3 has more gain and is a thicker and an all over better pedal then the SD-1 but i don't like BOSS gear i reckon it is overated
Well, boss pedals are cheaper than thoose called quot;boutiquesquot; and many proffesionals carry one, or more than one with them.
I have a boss flanger (BF-2) and a delay (DD-3) and couldn't be more happy with them. In fact Boss is still one of the best selling brands (if not the best) because it offers useable gear at decent prices. Just think EVH or Zakk Wylde (SD-1) and Steve Vay and Satriani (DS-1), and this pedals go for 50$.
But, still, can anybody compare them?
