I had my Custom/59 hybred installed in my LP and I have to say I was surprised at how much crunch I got compared to the output which is medium. The pickup doesn't compress and and is open and clear, the sound also has some grit to it which keeps it from getting to round sounding. I would say that this pickup fills a gap that Duncan has not filled in it's line up, anything thay have above PAF type output seems to compress to much and jam the frequencies together. (To my ears anyway.) If you are looking for a different sound and don't want to pay quot;boutiquequot; prices contact Bachtorock and order one of his hybreds (he makes several), make sure you specify the magnet that will work best in the guitar/rig it will be used with. I added the last line because I have a bright guitar and got an A5 magnet when I should have known better and got an A2, live and learn to address the details before ordering! Peter is a great guy to deal with and his turn around is quick, and most important his prices are very reasonable.
A bump for Peter.
I tried one that was bought from BTR by someone else then sold to me
it is damn good and better than these other so called beefed up P.A.F's
it stays very classic toned but has the modern quot;pushquot;
i love the P.A.F twang it has
I tried it through a buds mesa and goddamn it did metal real good!
Sounds cool. However, the Custom coil has a lot more turns with a thinner gauge wire than the '59 coil. Isn't that a little bit noisy?

yes it is more noisy then a regular bucker but not enough to make you say quot;i wont use this pupquot;

So I don't have to buy two pickups and send them to him? I just order the hybrid I want from him?

They are noisy-ER, but not truly noisy. Mine is 6.7 screw coil 4.5k slug, so it's still about 2/3rds humbucking.

All you do is contact him and order and he ships the finished product to you, you don't have to send him anything except money.
Oddly enough I just pulled my own 59B/Custom A5 Hybrid out of my LP and went back to an 8.5K stock A5 59B....Sounds great! The Hybrid is a great pickup,but my ears wanted more glass and vintage shimmer again...I feel the 59B is a bit more articulate also...
