Is it possible to tell which wood a strat body is made of by looking at it? (E.g. looking at the wood grain etc...)
Thanks!
Should be able to. As ash is typically chosen on tele's to show grain since the grain looks good on blonde finishes and such.
Yea, telling ash apart from alder is fairly easy!
Cool.
So how exactly would I be able to tell?
Could you tell me or show me any links I could read up on it?
Thanks.
from : localhost/at the pictures. Ash has much wider, more open grain. The dark areas are larger and are farther apart than alder.

Ok smartie...If it's not wearing a sign saying quot;I'm effing alderquot;...how would you tell? I've seen some strats with translucent finishes that I would have sworn were Ash, only to find out they were alder.

Thanks for that... i'll give it a shot... hehe...
The ash seems to have a more prominent grain than the ash...
