Okay last time I only got one response, c'mon guys give the new guy a break I need some opinions, as many as possible.
I'm trying to decide on which wood type to go with (for body). It's for a flying V ...
would you guys go with alder or korina?
Thanks a million!
I'm happy with my Epiphone Alder V.. With a Duncan distortion in the bridge.
I've never tried Korina, though..
mos def Korina. Also I'd get Korina neck with rosewood fingerboard.
korina baby
or mahogany
I gotta ask you guys, why?
My favorite wood is mohagany, IMO it has a nice werm full sound. Between the two woods you picked I would go with alder mainly because I have no experence with korina.
What stlye do you play?

I play Rock.
Korina is supposed to sound very similar to mahogany - the '58 Explorer and V were Korina. I love my Strat sound which is alder, and I'm not really a big fan of the Gibson sound it's just that I need a thicker sound sometimes - I really like the V sound (strong low mids, not too thick like a LP, not too middy like the SG)
here's your answer
V

What do YOU want the guitar to sound like is the question here With the standard Flying V (NOT rhoads or other offset Vs) you´ll definitely get slightly accentuated mids. Mahogany or Korina would direct the sound more in the direction of the thick low mids of a Gibson Flying V, and alder would reducer the thickness but make the guitar a bit more quot;nasal, ideal for 80s metal....
ANd that´s just the tip of the iceberg
depends
korina will have more of the standard quot;rockquot; sound, if i was properly informed it's like a less muddy version of mahogany, but still has that fat bottom, like everything else good in the world
i have some expirience with alder, though. It's a pretty universally good wood, i mean, you really can get it to sound any way you want, it seems pretty flat EQ'd to me, not really lacking in any frequency
