While dismantling my Jackson J50BC today my distorted mind had an idea (eh don't bash me, for once it happens )
How about a FullShred with a ceramic magnet?
I assume it'd be a little less bright and become more midrang-y, along with a slightly increased output (maybe from 14 to 16K?).
Has anyone done the mod? How does it sound to some of you?
I'm talking about the bridge version by the way.

DC resistance has nothing to do with the magnet, which is why it's not a surefire way to determine output. The output would increase, but I bet that would end up being one hellaciously shrill sounding pickup.

I believe it was Lindy Fralin (correct me if I'm wrong) who said that Alnico adds tonal characteristics to pickups, but ceramic is completely flat and transparent, ie you're hearing the coils, whereas with Alnico you're hearing the coils and the magnet.

I see. Overkill on the bright side you think?

Yup. Bigtime. However, do either of your Charvels have the active mid-boost? I think it might be worth trying if so.

The model 4 (which is the one having the FullShred) does. I love the thing.
Yeah it may be something to try if I ever get a beater pickup for yeah... not for too soon
