what is the dufference between output and dc resistance? ive always thought they were interchangeble. and what does a Henry measure? also, do any of those have anything to do with loudness? because some pickups are low output or dc resistance, but people say they are loud (and i dont think they mean in terms of noise or hum). how do i figure out which pickups are good matches?
dc resistance is not a measure of output though if you know other bits about the pup you can guess at how much output the pup will have.
dc resistance is a measurement of how much resistance to current flow the pup has thru the coil. a higher number usually indicates a higher output but magnet type, wire size and type and a few other things also influence the output of a pup
so just because a pickup has a high output or dc resistance doesnt mean its more of a quot;metalquot; pickup, or low mean quot;clean musicquot; pickup?
the higher the DC resistance the darker the pickup will sound. The lower the resistance the brighter is will sound. Check out the SD FAQ.
