hey guys, first post of mine.
neways to the point
i have a strat but am not very pleased with the sound. so i was considering changing my pickups but i couldnt decide what to. its a maple topped standard maexican start from a few years ago and i was wonderring is there anyway to make it sound like slash and if so what pickups would do the best job. but thats not all i want to ask, do u think it would sound fine to put more of a metal tone pickup (like maiden etc.) in the bridge spot as well. and what pick up would suit that.
so basically i am asking:
-what kind of pickups at neck would give slash tone for my strat
-and would it be ok to mix with another kind at bridge for metal tone and what pickups there?
thanks guys!!!!
lol a Strat to sound like SLASH? hehehe
interesting
TRY the APH1 and CC or APH1 and JB
welcome to the forum.
firstly, what amp/effects are you using your strat through? what is it you don't like about your tone?
um well, im using
-digitech rp100a multi pedal
-i usually use headphones or comp speakers. cuz i have awsome comp speaers like its surround n bass etc. neways
-when i do use an amp its a tiny peavy rage 158
-also i have a 10 band eq.
what i dont like is that i cant get a hard tone like hard rock or metal its well uh soft i guess u could say, i dont wanna sound like im playing with a hollow body lol.
is the only way to get that kinda sound to swicth to a more heavy body guitar? cuz i cant stand the way lp's sit on my leg for when i sit and play, or cup ur hand when u get to the body with ur left hand.
also can u stick humbuckers on a strat without it sounding like ****.
thanks guys again
Wow, you're using a Digitech pedal direct into headphones/pc speakers, and you think the problem is your guitar?!?
Before you even consider touching that Strat, do yourself a big favour and get a better amp. It will do you much more good than new pickups.
I'm sorry if this comes across as mean, but that is seriously what you need to do. The guys in the amp forum would be glad to help you out with that.
Good luck!
thanks man, my friend suggested that but i thaught he was just makin fun of my quot;less than goodquot; amp...
yeah. no offense, but do invest in a good amp. either that or take your guitar down to your local music shop and play through a few then decide if a change of pickups is necessary.
As a former MIM Strat owner, they are nice guitars but like yourself I didn't care for the stock pickups. I put in a set of Lace Sensor Hot Golds with the 13.6k hot bridge pickup and it really made the guitar come alive. A nice SRV tone from the neck and a thicker tone from the hot bridge. Just an idea for ya.
Maiden = Hotrails
I have to ask what are the CC's and JB's, like is that jargon because i have no idea what that means. also, what do u guys think it would sound like with
aps1 at neck and hotrails at bridge if i were to stay with single coils.
also id love to hear more suggestions from u guys on ur knowlege of hard rock/metal pickups like what u found to work well... im just about to get on searching for amps so u can find me in the amp forums too haha.
CC - custom custom
JB - the JB humbucker
most of the time they're acronyms for SD's pickups
