I know this question has been asked a million times on this forum...but I did a search and didn't feel the responses addressed my specific application.
I have a new LP that is fairly standard sounding (not too bright or dark). I'm looking for a good nickle covered bridge pickup for hard rock (ie Buckcherry) and 76 style punk rock (ie. US Bombs)--a traditional LP blasted through a Marshall tone.
I'm pretty set on a 59 for the neck, the bridge I can't decide on. I might want to try something just a little hotter than the 59 (maybe 9K or 9.5K--although it seems Duncan has a gap between 8.5K and 14K). The SH-5 appears to be a popular choice, but that may be a little hot for my application (perhaps not). I like the 59 very much...that may be pickup to go with, but I wanted to explore other options.
I have a Voodoo Amps modded JCM800 (Hex cicuit) which has a lot of gain on tap. I explored some boutique pickups (including Antiquities), but I've always been happy with Duncan's standard offerings--so why pay more? Is an Antiquity really that much better? Am I missing out?
I would soooooo go for a set of 59's......
59s in a paula through a marshall is very classic, yet very versatile, IME.
And with the amp you have, you've got tons of gain, no need for a Custom, IMO unless ya want the compression or the slight bass rolloff and mid emphasis.
However the Custom doesnt sound as hot as it's specs would indicate.
for what you are looking for a blues trembucker sounds perfect, except that you cant get it with a cover cause it has the weird pole pieces.
i have a 10k antiquity with a full strength magnet that is an amazing pup, not cheap, but worth every penny if you ask me.

did you make this one at UGD Jeremy? or just go through the CS as normal?
Compression ain't really my bag. I think you might be right about the 59, I keep going back to that pickup...there must be a reason.
So far I think I'm going with the 59...Any other suggestions?
I'd stick with the '59 for now and if it doesn't have the output you want then you have 21 days for an exchange.
