I got a classical guitar some months ago and i wonder if i can upgrade it in some way. The woods are of good quality and i don't feel of buying a new one. If i made a new nut and saddle would it do anything to the guitar soundwise? What material is best to use when regarding classical guitars?
Replace the nut and saddle with bone, upgrade the tuning keys,(the Waverly Irving Sloane designs are excellent),Feitenize it,have the braces shaved for tonal balance, good strings,(Thoma Inskfeld are really good,so are the Savarez),and always keep the top clean.
I liked the Augustine strings too, and what johnjohn said.
The thing with classical guitars is there isn't a HUGE difference in contruction in entry level, mid, and high class classical guitars. Not like with electric or steel string guitars. There is definately a difference, but it's not huge.
In basic construction no,but high end instruments will have the tops and braces tuned.
