What's a good online store to buy tubes from? I need to replace the single 12ax7 preamp tube in my Marshall AVT50. Any recommendations as far as a good brand to buy? I was thinking Electro-Harmonix, but don't know much about tubes, to be honest. Eventually I'd like to replace all the preamp and power tubes in my Mesa/Boogie rack equipment too. I know the 5 preamp tubes in that amp have different purposes, but my knowledge stops there. Any info on good tubes for that amp would be great too.
Thanks
I really like the Chinese 9th generation 12AX7. You can find them on Ebay from VintageElectron for about $5 a piece.
Yep, I tried some of them on mrid's recommendation, and I like them. I have them in positions 1-3 in my Rectoverb, with two JJ tubes in V4 and the PI.
hmm, do those chinese tubes sound sweeter than sovteks or JJ's?
I prefer them over the JJs they replaced.
Guitar Amplifier Blueprinting has lots of info on tubes and vendors
If you go with JJ's you should send an email to Bob at Eurotubes.com. I can't wait to order the JJ's for my Classic 30 that he recommended.
If you know the sound you are after then call Eurotubes!

Just one suggestion.. if you order JJ preamp tubes, get the highgain graded version. They sound much better then the quot;standardquot; ones. The highgain graded ones have better overall tone, they're not as dark sounding.
