I know this is stupid....but I'm curious what y'all think

This is the guitar...
Gettin ready to buy some new pups...I like the 498T for the most part, but just would like something a little less middy....so...

I'm a bit at a loss as to what pups *COLORS* to put in. I'd much rather use nickel covers, but finding any Duncan that is not a JB or 59 in nickel cover is about impossible unless I special order and that takes longer than I'm prepared to wait...I want to go with a C-5 in the bridge and either an APII or 59 in the neck.

Anyhoo...

As you can see the pickguard is white, rings are black. I know Black pups would look OK..if a bit quot;dullquot;

What do you think about Zebras? I'm thinking that may look silly....creme against white...

I was also considering a White C-5 (as I know where one is), and a Black neck pup....

thoughts?

Chrome, black, or white/black zebras. Those are the only 3 combos I would put in that guitar. Black with chrome rings would look cool too.

check ebay... i just bought a C-5 and a APII on ebay with chrome covers. Just be patient tehy are out there

Why don't you buy the pup and the cover seperately and put them together?

Xero,

Yeah..Black amp; white Zebras would be way cool too, and that was my initial thought and I asked..but like the covered versions..sev weeks special order...

Installing covers has nothing to do with electronics... it's just putting it on top and making a solder point so it holds together... you could also just use tape if that's too difficult... lol

1. That was the easiest (and safest !) part of the first mod I ever did.

That Firebird is an icon of beauty, by the way. It deserves nothing less than chrome IMHO.

Yeah, keep the current covers and put em on the new pickups for sure!

Hmmm.....k...thanks for the ideas...I'll give my tech a ring and ask about using the covers off the gibbos on the duncans....

heh..thanks ...most of the hardcore Firebird guys don't care for it...but dangit, I like it much as any quot;realquot; firebird I've played (vintage or new!), and better than a whole mess of Les Pauls I've had.

And that pic is horrid..it came out looking all dirty and scratched up. I took that the day I got it. She's got a few scratches now, but polished up she looks great!

I too prefer chrome.

Seriously...if $ were not an issue, I' d have a set of Crawlers or somethin in this axe in a heartbeat.

Please don't do that.

I think you'd have to get new ones because of the pole spacing... but I'm not sure... I think it'd be best to ask your tech about that too...

K..thanks...I did match up some non covered 59s and the spacing seemed the same as the gibbos..def not the same as the Custom trembucker I compared too as well.

As others have mentioned custom order a white/black zebra or go with chrome.

if you look a little, I'm sure you can find covered C5 amp; '59Ns between BlackRose, Lew's, or Guitar Heaven, and Guitar Electronics.
