I got a Charvel model 1a not long ago. The guitar buzzed with VERY high action. The nut is well made (I thought so and so did the tech) and I found no high or loose frets. This guitar must just hate me. And here the fretjob refinishing the neck is probably going to be cost me close to 150 or over that The warmoth neck would be about 250 with taxes and shipping I guess.
Basically here's what I can do:
1) get the non TB Full Shred from the person who sold the TB from me and swap them out. Get a new pickup for the 1a and put the TB10 in there and just get the neck's frets levelled and crowned. That should be about the budget I have. That can happen only if I'm positive the fret level will make the guitar playable.
2) get the Schaller Floyd and get a fully functionable model 4 which won't need much more updating. Then maybe sell the model 1a's neck and get a cheap one to work on and start saving up for the warmoth one for xmas.
3) sell the whole of the model 1a and look for a more 'beater' guitar as well as buying the Schaller.
4) use everything I have to repair the model 1a. I'm also receiving a rails pickup for it soon so it'll be a player.
You can see the dilema... I'm not even sure I have enough for the neck repair (I have 150 euros, maybe 200). If I get 100 euros for the neck I'll have enough for the warmoth neck. Then it won't be that long before I can get the SH10 and wap them out with a new pickguard too. But if the neck repair will solve the problem then there's no point in getting the warmoth and arrrrrgh my head burns.
Ah I just heard that apparently warmoth necks won't fit Charvel model series neck. I really thought they were exactly the same... shat
Ok that post was confusing and it took me ages to edit, with the forum's slow speed. I made it clearer.
I also do have another guitar, a Charvel model 4 So I will have one either way.
It seems that since warmoth necks don't fit, I'll HAVE to get this one repaired. That may be about 100 euros, then I'll put the Bill Lawrence in there and save up some more for the Schaller for the other guitar.
Basically it all depends on whether the fret levelling would solve the problem or not. I'll HAVE To do it anyways.
Well it looks like there's no more dilema now
I don't know what to tell you, bro. You've definitely got yourself in a tough situation. I would definitely want to have A guitar, even if it has a few small playing problems in sacrifice for a better guitar down the road. Good luck with your decision.
Ah I edited the post, it was confusing and it took me a while to do so :P It's clearer now... I think. Thanks JacksonMIA!
How much does a fret levelling/crowning or a full refret cost for a maple neck in your area?
Honestly, I've never checked on it. I know TheOdie comes highly recommended by many members on the forum, and I'd probably send one to him if I needed it. I don't know how feasable that is from across the pond. I'm sure someone else knows a reasonable price, though.
I am not sure over there bro but, I would be more than happy to do it for ya!!!
Thanks very much for the Plug JacksonMIA!!!!!!
I'd probably cost me over 50 dollars to send it there, another 50 to have it returned. I'm not even sure it'd solve the problems Theodie, I'll call the guy who does it here and if in the end it's cheaper to ship it to you (I also quite know I won't regret it based on the final results I saw) I'll contact you about it
Ok the tech here asks for 120 euros/150 dollars for a levelling crowning. Then I'd also have to have lacquer sprayed... Meeeh...I think it'd be more expensive to ship it to theodie unfortunately for that price. How much does a neck ship for usually? About 50 dollars?
ARRGH I just checked the neck with the problems. ALL the frets are high. They're level compared to each other but I can slide a piece of paper being the upper part of the fret and the wood under it... Not good I guess.
