I had recently bought a rio grande bbq for my strat...........a good PUP but I don't seem to get that quot;chunka chunkaquot; sound out of it that I like....so I am deciding which to get next.......suggestions?.......
Both of these can chug I think... The JB has more bass, but the FS' bass are much tighter. I'd go for a FullShred.
If your trying to get more quot;ballsquot; you need to go with a custom.
I haven't tried a full shred but I have a jb and it definitely doesn't quot;chunka chunkaquot; as well as other pickups I've had. Of the few I've had experience with the emg85 covers that territory exceptionally well. Mike from Opeth gets a very solid chug with fullshreds though so it's probably a good option. I know some here have said it's the tightest in the duncan line.
I've had a full shred. It's a very tight articulate pickup that's good for single note leads, but it's very thin and lacks balls. I suppose w/ an uber chunky amp you could get some thick palm mutes.
it all depends on yur amp.i can get chunga metal palm mutes easily with my jb humbucker in strat plus.and thats plugged to a blues amp...peavey classic 50 4x10.
Full Shred by a mile!!
Full shred by 2 miles
Full Shred!!!!
it would be good if we could make this a poll
Full shred by 2000 miles 'cos the JB should stay parked
You guys are really cool for giving me some feedback on pickups,I owned an esp m2 deluxe a while back and had a custom custom installed (good pickup) but my tonal tastes seem to change, nowadays I like good guitar crunchiness like opeth, carcass, brujeria, aic, messhugah, exodus, necrop hagist........you guys get the idea........but more than likely I will get the full shread.....(I saw opeth 2 weeks ago and talked to michael akerfeldt briefly (nice guy) and asked him what he played........sure enough,he said full shread...that's good enough for me.
See, I told you
Just something I said in the Vault that can help (slightly shortened)Originally Posted by TheProphetAlthough I much prefer to search for people asking about the Full Shred ... I contribute.
I've used the Trembucker Full Shred in Alder and Poplar bodied guitars for about 5 years now. It's been run on various different amps and always using 500k volume pots.
I'll try and sum this up easily
Voice: The Full Shred is a very distinct sounding pickup that is very articulate and can easily cut through the mix. Similar to single coil pickups, the articulate nature of the pickup means that string to string picking and runs are clear even under a considerate amount of distortion. Sweep Picking, and Palm Muting are areas where the Full Shred excells. With palm muting, the articulation means that the Full Shred delivers pure quot;Chunkquot;. Being high output and also having the articulate (you gotta hate this word now) nature of this pickup, I feel it is compressed sounding ... especially clean ... hence why I also use the '59 in the neck.
EQ: The EQ (which I feel is slightly different to voice) is more focused on the upper mids and highs, lows are not boosted that much, but unlike other pickups that I have tried, the bass is extremely tight once you learn to get it out of there.
...
How to get the most from your Full Shred Woods: I prefer it in Poplar (edit - Alder is pretty damn good as well)... and I think it'll also be good in Mahognay and other darker woods ... this will help increase the bass responce in the Full Shred. Albeit, Farkus, much to my hestitation over his choice uses it in an Ash guitar and seems to be pleased with the results.
Amps: Closed Backs! Tight Tight Punchy Bass will occur when you mate the right guitar and amp with the Full Shred and a Closed back cab. Once again, play with the EQ and (suprise) the gain settings ...
And if it's good enoguh for the TheProphet, Opeth, Joe Perry and D!cky Betts ... it's damn good
