I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with a headphone jack on a n amp not working.I just got a new Ramdall rx20d cheap practice amp. The headphone jack is bad. I think I may have to switch Brands. I only got to try the amp with an acoustic running a pick up the world #27 thru fishman pro eq.I bought it for the clean channel. I will be using a Godin lg with humbukers. The initial sounds seemed pretty good. This model goes for 170- 180 dollars. It has a decent sounding Celestion tube 10quot; speaker. I am going to ask the company if the next model up uses the same headphone setup. I am still thinking about a direct replacement. Any suggestions.
My old Crapiphone amp had a headphone jack, but I only used it once or twice. It worked those two times, but that's not nearly enough to know if there were any problems. So I guess, consider this a bump.
If you can exchange it, do it. If not, the solution is usually to re-wet the solder points holding the headphone jack to the PC board. Anytime jacks are mounted on a board, they're prone to failure. If you pull the cord too hard, it causes microscopic cracks on the solder point....cold solder joint. It still looks connected, but it's broken the connection. That's why sometimes if you wiggle the cord you'll get it to work.
If you're familiar with working on an exposed (and unplugged!) amp, touch your soldering iron to the 2-4 solder points so they re-set.
