hi guys, i have decided on some 10-52 gauge strings for my 24.75 scale les paul. the lowest tuning i will be going to is drop C.

The gauge is basically skinny top heavy bottom.

Question is, which brand shall i go for?

Ernie Ball?
GHS Boomers?
D'addario?

those brands seem the easiest to get for me here in the UK.

I think the GHS Boomers have a slightly thicker A string than the other brands i listed. does this make much difference?

thanks

get Dean Markley blue steels. Those rock big time if you ask me.

interesting. what LP is dat? one inch more than 24.75.

whoops, sorry i meant 24.75. i'll just change it

The GHS set has a 44 for the A, versus the 42 in the rest of them. If you're tuned down a whole step, the difference is gonna be very negligible.

I would recommend using the D'addarios, especially in a shorter scale length. They seem to have more tension that the other brands. A buddy of mine uses their 10-49 set for drop C, and takes the 49 down to A sometimes.

Even further, I'd recommend using Dean Markley's 11-52 set. I use them on my 24.75quot; guitar for the same tuning, and it's great. They even give you 2 third strings (18p/20w)!

D'Addario...there isn't any other choice IMO. great sounding and feeling strings that last long and are made about 20 minutes from my house lol.

D'addario's. I have that Gauge on my ESP Eclipse. I'm in love.

D'Addario's are great.

Interesting is the sound though... never let anyone tell you that strings sound the same. I switched, initially, from Fender Bullets to D'Addarios, and whoa... the sound was significantly duller. Or the Fenders were brighter. As you like it. Once I got used to the sound though, I liked 'em.

I used these strings and gauge for my first months of guitar. GREAT strings. I'm still partial to D'addarios. I HATE Ernie Balls

Hey JBfH, do you know which set that is? I'm looking for a set of 10s that are a little heavier on the wound, but not up to the .052 like the heavy/light sets.
I've been using the D'Adarrio 10.5-48 set for now, but I'd like to get back to the standard 10-13-17 top set.

GHS but not boomers, Progressives!!!
Dave Mustaine Signatures simply rock, give 'em a try.

Knucklehead strings, best strings I've ever used and they don't ever die i swear!

I don't know what the set is called, but I believe it's guaged 10,14,21w,28,38,49. I know, it sounds goofy, but it felt pretty good. Also, I'm partial to the wound third

Out of the ones listed, D'Addarios.

I use Everly B-52's, and when I can get them, the DR Pure Blues. Just like silk boxers, they're a luxury.

According to their website, they don't make a 10-52.

I'm using the GHS TNT boomers on my open c guitar now, which is pretty similar to drop C.

Before I was usin a 24.75quot; scale for open c...but to be honest the TNT's didnt seem to agree with the shorter scale. I switched recently from an ibanez ax220QM to a brian moore i8, which has a 25.5quot; scale, and now I've got no problems.

I'd say go for the daddarios. I'm gonna be switchin to those myself here pretty soon.

I'm gonna Vote for Ernie Ball. Cause thats what I use. And I've tried nearly every string out there that I can find (with the exception of the quot;knuckleheadquot; ones mentioned, cause I can't find em). In my Opinon, Ernie ball makes the Best strings, No matter what anyone else says about em. But when I say quot;bestquot; I mean Best for me.

Personally I think you should Just buy a set of Each of the Brands you can find in that gauge. And Just try em all. Its not like strings are expensive ya know? Just play one set for aweek, write down what ya thought of them in a note book. Then move on to the next Brand. And once you've gone through all the Brands, look back at the notes, and decide whice you liked best.

It might seem like alotta effort, Just for strings. But really, If your not willing to do This Much (little) work for strings. Then Strings don't really matter much to ya. And If thats the case, Just buy whatevers cheapest. If it doesn't make any difference anyways.

good luck
Edward

I was using Dean Markley's for a little while about a year ago, but as soon as i went back to D'Addario's my guitar really warmed up and had a better overall response. I was really surprised that strings had that much difference between different brands.

another vote for D'Addario's

Ah, a wound third set. That's probably why I never looked at them. I like a wound third for some guitars, but not my Strat or LP.
Thanks

My answer is always the same when it comes to electric strings. DR, is the only way to go! I love them, and they work well for me.Sprinter
