I have one and it does very nice for a lot of things. I use it mainly to practice with.
I have the V-Amp Pro and use it for direct recording. I chose it over the V-Amp2 almost strictly on the basis that it has a ground and I was working in an environment which had some funny power things going on.
It's nice....decent. Not great, but enough to actually be worth what they go for. The user community is pretty active and recently someone released an app for MIDI control with OSX.
Yeah, they're definitely worth the money. It's not like having 60 different amps in you room or on stage, but it's about as close as you can get without breaking the bank. Some amps don't work very well with them and tend to dirty the sound. A very clean amp seems to work better, from my experience, and if you're just using it as a preamp for recording you won't have to worry about it. It's the best deal I've found for such a product.
I DON'T think they're worth the money, because they sound like ****!
Save your cash and get a PODxt; mine's comming in this week.
I have one and think its worth every penny of $100. In comparison, a line 6 pod 2.0 is pretty similar but twice the cost. A podxt is quite different and 3x the cost.
If you are trying to make a decision on wether or not to buy a vamp or something else instead, it's really going to depend on what your intended use is.
If you have a tight budget and need something that you can both direct record to a pc and run through an amp or pa, then a vamp2 will do well for both.
If all your looking for is a direct recording to PC device, I would go for a line 6 guitar port or the newer tone port.
If you have the money to spend on what you want, then certainly go for the podxt or even a podxt live. Your paying alot more, but realistically you get alot more also.
To compare a vamp and a pod 2.0, which to me is the more realistic comparison of line6 to a vamp, I would say the vamp will do basically the same thing. I think the pod 2.0 is better built and better layed out than the vamp, but I dont think that is worth double the cost unless you have the money. If you do have the money, then you might as well make the next step up to a podxt anyway.
So, when I was making my decision to purchase, the podxt was just too expensive, the pod 2.0 fell in a gray area that just did not intice me to buy it over the vamp.
