my friend brought over a les paul type guitar.....he had two quot;atomic humbuckersquot; from a fender toronado (my old one), and he wanted me to install them. i couldnt find a schematic of the pups anywhere, (what colors were what) so i took the bare and the black and grounded them together, then i took the green, white and red wires and soldered them to the appropriate spot on the three way switch. he doesnt use the tone, so we didnt even use it.
so all three (green, white and red) wires from the neck pup went to the 1st spot, and all three wires from the bridge pup went to the 3rd spot on the switch. in the first position it sounds like a normal neck pup and ditto for the bridge pup/3rd switch pos. but in the 2nd spot on the switch, it sounds CRAZY, both pups are on and it is still humbucking, but it sounds hot and hollow, and single coil a little. we both liked it and left it as is. it actually sounds really, really good. those atomic humbuckers are nice pups, after all.

It seems as though you have achieved a result through luck rather than judgement.

It sounds to me as though both pickups will have one coil shorted out and effectively not working.

If you like the sound then leave it as it is but i'm pretty sure the pickups are not wired as humbuckers.

thats probably happening in the 2nd pos on the switch, cause it sounds like single coils out of phase, but it sounds cool. when it its just the neck or the bridge pup selected, its definately both coils.... i think

anyone else?
