In no particular order.
Peavey Classic 30
Traynor YCV 50 blue
Tech 21 TM 60
Traynor highest priced, but still in my range. I was stuck on Tech 21 for home use but after hacking around on the Peavey, I found I could use the master volume to get the volume tolerable without sacrificing much tone, and still have the tube amp. I've never played the Traynor, but read 1 jillion reviews, heard lots of soundclips, it has master volume as well.
So, unless someone stops me dead in my tracks, I'm about to pull the trigger on Traynor, $699 at MF. Yeah, I know, you should play, blah, blah, but I haven't found a sinlge Traynor within 200 miles. So what the hell, I can return it and start over if it don't work, and then get the Tech 21 and gladly be stuck in SS land forever.
TRAYNOR hands down!! Just no contest.
should also mention I have the Vox 30watt Valvetronix I will be keeping for when I really need to keep the volume down.
Out of the 3 the Peavey does not fit in the same realm of amps! Its more of a Fender like sound rater than a distortion kinda amp! Its a hard call between the Traynor and the Tech21!! I have a Traynor YCV40 and its a well built solid amp! I have no doubt the 50 will be the same! I wonder what the cleans are like on the Traynor? If you have heard clips of the cleans and they sound good, Go for the Traynor!!! Otherwise, I think the Tech21 will be a better bet if the Traynors cleans are lacking!!!!
I'd pick the Traynor every time. I understand the cleans are really decent, and the drive is very Marshallesque.
Marshall-esque is what I'm looking for. I even tried the DSL but somehow didn't care much for it. I know the Tech 21 can get decent Marshall like tones, and Theodie, I agree, the Peavey was less Marshallesque, but really AC/DC and hair metal type stuff is all the gain I need, I could get close to there with the Peavey.

The Traynor will do marshall sounds better than the DSL. (I know that doesn't sound right)
I tried a traynor a few weeks ago and was distinctly unimpressed. the tech 21 is cool, but I'd go for the peavey. I'm not a massive fan of the Classic 30, but if you can afford it, look at the delta blues 2x10. That's a really great amp. Or maybe the 1x15 version if 10s aren't your thing.
I've got a YCV50. The cleans are the best I've ever heard from an EL34 amp. The distortion is very nice - Vox like without the gain boost, Marshallesque with. I'm not a big fan of the Vintage 30, but that's easily fixed. If you decide to buy it, don't get it from musiciansfriend. I got mine brand new for under $600. Check out - they're a Traynor dealer and they might be able to get one for you. Also, watch ebay - stores have been selling them new a lot (that's where I got mine). If you have any questions about it, ask!
I have the Tech 21 and love it for it's great tones, great features, versatility and portability. I haven't tried either of the other two, but the Tech 21 is definitely a keeper. Just a great piece of gear to have around.
Did you notice Theodie has a Traynor 40 for $350. shipped. Give up 10 watts and save $300.
^10 watts and a differently voiced preamp and totally different poweramp!

Since you already have a Valvetronix, I say now you need a tube amp which eliminates the Tech 21. You say you want Marshallesque, EL34's are where it's at and that's the YCV50.
Peavey, great amps, amazing cleans at the price and a defiatly doable od channel. Plus easily modable for better tone. A new speaker and tubes and you have a great sounding amplifier
Thanks for the link, baseball.
I also noticed Musicians Buy had 'em for $649, anyone bought from them. Any problems?
^Most reviews of the amp I read before I bought mine said they bought it from there with no problems. Apparently though, there was one lemon amp that they kept having returned to them...and kept reselling. It was kind of interesting following the path of that one amp through reviews on different sites and forum discussions. If you buy from them, make sure it's factory sealed.
Hmmmm, think I've read that same thread, Harmony Central, I think.

Save the money, run a decent pedal through it and you have it!!!! Brisk runs a Bonzai Fireball through his with great results!!!! Plus, you can just click off the pedal and have the nice Fender like cleans!!
I don't doubt it, theodie. I'd love to have the 210 version to run alongside the Blue.
the traynor!!!!
