My friends purchasing one for around $400US. Tell me about this guitar! I've heard a fair bit about it and there is another thread but it's not in depth. Is he getting a good deal?

Uhh ... I remember the Heartfield's and have played one on occasion.

Not bad ... but for $400 us? I don't know ...

It was Fender's offering to compete with the 'shredder guitars' like Ibanez, around 91/92. They're closest in design to Ibanez guitars. They were around $600-$700 when they came out, and $400 is about right for a highend one in good shape.

Ahhh ok, thanks for the info, Proph, GJ

Yeah that's my memory as well (not the price - the guitar). When I first saw them I thought they were pretty badass except for the wussy name. I always hate the fact that these things sold new for less than my Kelly and yet they have a higher resale (the highest I've seen the same model as my Jackson Kelly go for is around 200 bones or less) lt;- I'm a slight bit bitter

They play all right if you're into RG styled Ibanez (for some reason I remember the Heartfields as having a meatier neck).

I'm still torn on the $400 US, it's a decent price but I think I'd having tried to get it for lower ... just my views - I don't set the market by any means

I guess it depends on the exact model and color. This was an era where you could end up with a pink or pearl white clunker, or a more desireable version, like pewter, blue, or black.
They aren't necessarily my cup of tea, but the resale is anywhere between $350 and $450.

I borrowed 1 off a friend for a few gigs in Cyprus with SD JB's in it. Sounded and played superb. I was gutted when he moved back to the States!

always wanted one
