the III has a more aggressive punchier tone than II but still has that II sweetness factor

Jeff i am dying to hear a III in a seth, PG or a JB

Precisely what I'm hearing there....lead tone is punchy like A5 but not as brittle... and not too sweet/smooth, which keeps me away from A2
hmmmm...

I've tryed the A3 magnets in a 59N and 59B pickup...Reminded me of an A2 more than anything else...The A5 is still tighter in the lows and more quot;presentquot; in the highs...The A2 and A3 have that slight quot;squishquot; factor in the lows and a bit more mids...I still have some A3 and A4 magnets..

That sounds really nice.

A3 is pretty close to A2, but has a little more low/low-mid. Maybe just a touch more shimmer. And slightly less overall output.

I love a5/a4 bridge and a3 or dunaged a2 necks. Of course all depends on tastes and the particular guitar, but still these I think what makes me happy.

Recently, I mated my 8.75 PG (I love that pickup and I know there are many who think its too bright) with an a3 8.10K PGb in the neck. Great results, sounded like a little beefed up version of the timbuckers that guys in the LPF love.

BTW Jeff is a real nice guy. He has been real helpful with some questions of mine. I will be trying them high order pickups quite soon.

Alnico 3 is a great neck pickup mag.

I couldn't agree more.

I love the day that I learnt about these thanks to Peter Florance!

Hi, i got an pair of Ant PAFs and swapped out the magnet in the bridge (8.5k) - to thin for me. This degaussed A2 in the bridge reminded me of a Alnico 3, but a tad more A2. The degaussed A2 was a little more neutral or call it bland.
The next step was full Alnico2 in the Ant bridge: Great, fuller, a little rounder.
Than a degaussed A5 was the step into the A5 terretory: More bass and very high mids (i dont call them highs like a full A5). Since the low mids are scooped, it not that full like a full charged A2.
I stay with the A2.
The surprise for me was how similar a degaussed A2 and a full A3 are.
