It seems that the the LP Jr. is about $200 more new or used. It also only has one pup, so I'm thinking that the price spread has more to do with the Gibson brand and that its made in America. Anyone out there play both of these and can compare?

Ahh ironies...I got my SE cuz it looked like a junior!
Only played original juniors so, of course, they rocked
But I really enjoy my SE, it has been one of the biggest gear suprises of all since i only payed 100 for it.

WORF!!!!!

I love my SE.

I've played both...

I'd personally go w/ Gibson for a few reasons..

1) No upper cutout...more quot;chunkquot;..which I prefer..especially with P90s
2) Prefer the gibson scale length, fret size, etc..
3) American made
4) If such things concern you, better resale value

Both are great axes for the $.....

EDIT: part of #1...more stable neck joint...

I'd go with the LP Jr. Much better resale value, if you care about that. I'm just not a PRS guy. The Jr may have one pickup but it is an excellent sounding guitar.

My Korean-made Soapbar SE 2 has far better quality control than my American-made Gibson SG Special.

Ultimately, see if you can play both through the same amps and use that to make your decision.

Holla!!!!!! Thats is the damn truth!!

Yeah, this is definitely a matter of taste. The only way to know is to go try both and make a decision......and preferably through the same type of amp.

I like the new SE's, but me personally, I'd seek out an early 90's LP Jr w/single cutaway. They were making them a little better then.

despite gibbo's QC issues, i'd still go with the junior

despite being pretty much one trick, it's really good at that trick, and the PRS sounds just a bit too thin to my ears, when i played one it was kinda hard to get a good warm chunky tone out of it

The Les Paul Jr. and the 3-pickup Black Beauties are the only Gibson LPs that get the Xander Face Seal of Approval. I'll make a logo someday you just wait.

And playing a PRS will make you look like Nickelback.

So i say the Jr.

-X

I have a jr, and it's a killer guitar.

I love PRS guitars, and one day hope to swap my CU22 for McCarty Soapbar, but the jr I have just sounded better than the very well designed and made PRS soapbar SE (original singlecut type) I tried.

I have an early 90's singlecut LP Junior. Granted I swapped out the Gibby p'up for a Fralin P-90, but it's an absolute tone monster and has an amazing neck. Quite possibly my fav of all my guitars including my Custom Shop guitars...

LP Jr's get my vote as one of the all-time best rock guitars. Comfortable, basic, well balanced, great tone...

You'd be surprised how truly versatile this quot;one trick ponyquot; is. She's got a few more tricks than you think. I hardly pick up my other guitars anymore.

I feel the same way about my PRS SE Soapbar!!!!

It's kinda bittersweet. Feels so great to totally love an instrument, but then I feel guilty about all my other girls being neglected.oh yeah. and I got my jr when it was on sale for $599. Closes the price gap a bit.

I would (and will) go with a Jr...I prefer both the feel and the tone of a Gibson to a PRS plus seeing that the SE's are going so damn cehhp, the market is soon to be flooded with them and the resale is now or will soon be in the basement...aside from all that I simply love a good Jr or Special!

At least someone is starting to take notice that I do!!!

BTW, that was said in response to Gibsons lack of quality control vs. the very good quality control at the factory that makes SE's. If someone actually thinks Gibsons QC is good they are either, blind, has never played a guitar, knows nothing about what makes a good guitar, in denial, never played a Gibson, or they are on the Les Paul forum!!! LOL!

I think its funny how many people spend $2000 on a Gibson then bring it to my shop for a setup or other repair work that Gibson should have taken care of before it left the factory!

Even though I've only played the PRS I would (and will, like christian said) get a jr. but when the time is right I'm gonna track a historic junior down on ebay. Mostly because the standard sunburst junior look is too green day for me and i just don't like how it looks, plus I prefer a fatass neck! o ya and TV yellow or TV white ar sick on juniors.
