Hello All:
I wouldnt dare post this on certain other quot;ampquot; forums for fear of reprisal!!!
I am in the market for a new amp and have narrowed the choices down to either Mojave (Peacemaker or Scorpion) or Germino (Lead 55 or Headroom 100). I would love to hear from some of you that have owned both and can offer a direct comparison of the two. I would use these amps to play mainly Zep, Hendrix, Who, Tull etc, so definitely looking for a classic cound. But, I do venture into early VH, OZZY, Malmsteen etc, so I would be curious to hear how these amps sound quot;pushed.quot;

C'mon guys - not one opinion on any of these boo-teek amps!!
i havn't had the pleasure to play either of them. Jeremy might have, maybe he will see the post,

I've heard the Mojave Plexi 45, it's a great amp, nails the plexi sound, but I can't help with the these.
There are reviews of the Peacemaker and the Scorpion at that would be worth a read if you haven't already. The Scorpion seems especially interesting.

I need to be sure I am making the right move before forking over two or three grand.
Now to add to my confusion, I have been looking at the Blockhead BLK100, which is supposed to be a replica of a 67 Plexi.
I have combed the classifieds for late 60's early 70's Marshalls and they are either way too expensive or have been hacked to bits by mods.

Are planning on gigging at all or just playing around the house? Becasue the Mojave is very limited for switching and not real gig worthy. You should check out the Splawn Quick Rod. You'll save money and its a much more versatile and rugged amp.

Yeah - I looked at Splawn mods too, as well as David Bray. I plan on getting the Splawn mod done to my JCM800 2203.
Yes - this (mohave, Germino, Blockhead) would be used for gigging and band rehearsal. I dont care about channel switching, I want my next purchase to be an quot;old schoolquot; setup.

Germino's kill and I would take one over Mojave's stuff any day of the week. I've never heard anything other than sheer praise about it. I'd definitely give one a test run if I were you and they are about as accurate as you can get when it comes to nailing classic tones.

I have yet to hear a single bad thing about Greg and his amps, but have heard some negativity amongst all the praise for some of the other guys I mentioned. I really like the sound clips on Gregs homepage, but I really need to know how his Lead 55 and Headroom 100 react when pushed - yes, I know these plexi style designs are not high gain amps, but which one can most easily be pushed to produce higher gain crunch tones??
Another reason for my dilemma is that Gregs amps are not really Plexi quot;clonesquot; as far as I understand, but his take on the Plexi design. Some have described the sound as a mix between a Hiwatt and a Marshall. Blockhead on the other hand aledges their BLK 100 is an EXACT replica of a 67 plexi - so I wonder which is preferable. Mohave is known to nail the brown sound with thier Peacemaker and Scorpions, but those soundclips that kick everyones ass were not done using a simple plug in and play setup.

I'd go for the Germino 55, Blockhead Custom 50, or the Splawn before I'd buy a Mojave. Anytime I've plugged into one, I've not stayed plugged in for long....just cold, trebly, and hard sounding.....I'm not a big fan of Roccaforte either.
There was a killer plexi made by Brittone (Blues Pearl) that just sold on Ebay for $1200.
I used to own that exact amp, and it was one that I really regret selling. It was fun to see it come up for sale by the guy who bought it from me, just so I could see it get bids! Too bad they only made about 30 of them.
After getting the Bogner Ecstasy, I just don't find myself looking at Marshall style amps anymore. The Bogner is like an encyclopedia of EL-34 tone, and the channels and options have spoiled me away from other Marshall boutique copies. Most of those amps can't even do what the blue channel does on the Bogner. Then, add a great clean channel and great high gain channel. They cost a lot, but the Ecstasy will end your search for EL-34 amps. I'm even thinking of selling a Matchless to buy a 6L6 Shiva 2-12 with reverb, to basically end my desire for 6L6 amps.

Well - after months of analysis and deep thinking, the deed is done! I just ordered a Germino Lead 55 Standard, with a 4x12 cab - Greenback reissues. 4-6 weeks lead time....how will I sleep??
I'll post a full review when it arrives.

Very Cool - I've seen Zoso, a Zep tribute band a few times, and the guitarist gets a really killer sound out of his Germinos.

Yeah - someone on the Gear Page forum sent me some personal clips of his Lead 55, and it does a mean Zep. For me, that was reason enough to buy it alone. Plus Greg is real cool, someone I feel comfortable forking my hard earned cash over to.
