Bad weather and waiting on my CD to be done have made me a bit antsy. I decided to take a stab at Trowers - Day Of The Eagle, the tune that made me want to play guitar in the first place. This is not an attempt to nail the tone or play the parts correctly. I ain't much for doing covers but this is one I have wanted to learn for a long time. At some point I have a friend who is gonna toss on some vocals.

Useing an old Valco PA into a Weber Mass, my Strat and an Eminence Wizard loaded cab. Fun stuff!!

I remember listening to that 8-track in my parents car when I was a teen! (Of course now I have the cd) As much as I love Blackmore's tone, for me Trower's is the best Strat tone I've heard. Actually one of the best TONES period. I once read him saying he turned up the mids and turned down the bass and treble. Anyways, I'm off to have a listen to your cover.

It is loaded through Musicmatch, not sure if there is an issue or not.

I have probably listenned to Bridge more than any other guitar album. Absolutely stunning tone. Having seen him live a few times it is tought to beat being surrounded by that wall of sound. I tend to push the mids too, almost all my heads have the mid dimed and the lows rolled off.

That's a fun tune to play, Ain't it. I got a old DOD phaser that's junk.
But for some reason I can nail Trower's Bridge of Sigh tone with it?
I got the setting scratched into case with a X-acto knife.
You nailed the tone without the phaser/uni-vibe or what ever it was
he used on that tune.

BTW, Thanks for the laney tips Ordered the filter cap today!
Replaced the 470pf cap. Also replaced some of the .022 coupling
caps with orange drops.

Thanks for that piece of history! I love that song and now I'm gettin' the urge to hit the little used CD store up the street in the morning!! I hope he has some Trower.

The one nice thing with this tune is that he had no roto going on. I get a good feel with my Line 6 mod box for B.O.S. Socal's interview he posted was great. 2 800s and a 900, same set up I saw him with and he sounds exactly the same. Three of the best shows I have ever seen, his band was just slammin.

I am just getting ready to put some .033 in place of the .022 in that amp. I love what that did in my Gibson heads, It is a pain cause off go the knobs and the board and the.... But once I start actually doing it it is not so bad. Those little square guys are a pain, can't get them out topside. What year is yours? Does it have the cool green filter cans in it? I love that color.

Cool, I am glad it worked. I appreciate you checking it out. Loved that interview!! I have to pick up that new album, I didn;t care for the blues one. A bit mainstream for me, but for the rock stuff I am all ears...

Man, I know what you mean. That tune is just quot; IT quot; for me! If you get the new remastered B.O.S it has a whole section of live stuff that is very cool. Well worth it to pick up . I recently replaced my Trower cassette I have had since 1985.Side B was Captain Beyond. That tape made it 20 freakin years. go BASF!!! Best cassettes ever! lol

My laney got to be 84' or older? I still can't find the propper schematic for
it anywhere? It's pre AOR series. It has Blue filter cans But the coupling
caps are bogger green (.022mf) the .01 are the plastic box type. I couldn't
help but notice this amp seems to be a good canadate for a Hoffman
drop in P2P Plexi board. it's $175 already populated. I just gotta find out
if the tranny voltages will work with the board. But as you demostrated
a few tweaks here and there and you can get a convincing Plexi tone
from these things. With my luck I'd drop the plexi board in it... And it would
sound NOTHING LIKE A PLEXI.

I enjoyed this. Great raw/Hendrix/70s type strat tones. Nice!

He really got lost in the shuffle and IMO is one of the greatest players of his time. In some regards he and Frank Marino are similiar. Folks should be hearing these guys!

This little PA head is one of the coolest amps I have owned. It has the quot;Round Soundquot; very smooth around the edges.

I just redid the mix, hotter drums and more presence. I was listening to Cheap Trick and decided to mess a bit...lol Should sounds a bit different now.
