On the pickup swap videos that SD did, the Mark Knopfler strat had an aluminum shield under the white pickguard. Is that standard with all CS Strats?

its standard on all strats.

.. save maybe some of the really low end models, but I think even Squiers have shieleded guards

all Strats have the sheilding but most of the CS Strats have the real thick aluminum shiels that covers the entire guardplate...

the JV is sheilded...but it is only a small piece of thin sheilding tape inder the controls only...

There'd be at least a piece of metal foil glued to the underside of the pickguard in the control area with pretty much any Strat...even the JV. It's to ground all of the pots and switches together and provide a little shielding I think. Makes it easier to wire the guitar too because otherwise you'd have a to run a ground wire to the back of all of the pots. Some Strats are wired that way anyway, with a ground wire attaching all three pots together. But I don't think it's really needed if the pots are attached to the foil or metal backing of the pickguard. Lew

Thanks, Christian. I may remember that.

My JV really hums when I stand next to the computer with it.
Any opinions of aluminum vs. copper shielding pickguards or using shielded wire?

Thanks Lew. I'm gonna take it apart Saturday and see what I find. I'd like to improve the shielding for this strat.

there are some people that tell me it's overkill but I use the shield from Callaham...it's not cheep but it's easy and IMO it kicks ass!
