ok, it's come time for me to mod up my strat!!

the ones im looking at are the 5-2(thanks to waste), teh ssl-1, ssl-3, the antiquities, and maybe even the quarter pounder

i want it to have a great funk tone, as well as a great vintage tone

I don't like the 5/2 much myself. The magnet switch is a bit too abrupt for my tastes and it affects note response which for funk I don't think is a good thing. I assume you are talking neck position if so it is tough to go wrong with a SSL1, chimey, full and great with a wah, that said funk is always in the player and less in the tools to do it with. If your funky it's gonna show!!

Funk is all about feel...not pickups. Jimmy Nolan, the guitarist with James Brown who IMO invented funk guitar, used everything from an ES-335 to an import guitar called a Fresher! Personally, of those you mentioned, I'd go for the Antiquity Surfers. Or the Duncan SSL-1. Lew

I *really* like the 5/2 but I agree that you want something brighter for funk.
