The guy that made my Flamekaster body is at it again. Check out THIS cool western design he's doing now. His name is John Guilford and his website is I am very pleased with the quality of the body he made for me!!

Did anyone ever quot;answerquot; the question on how to finish a carved body like this?

I suggested what seemed like an OK approach to coloring the flamed one, but on further thought can't figure out how you would buff out the finish. Seems like you have to fill the carving somehow to get a totally flat surface again. Either that or some simple wipe-on oil finish... danger of sand/buff throughs even with that.

Never having seen a '51 Esquire neck, I got a couple of questions: did they completely lack a volute on the back of the neck where it transitions into the headstock? did they come with double-expanding truss rods and jumbo frets (j/k)?

Sorry for letting the Monday morning blues come thru, but I really am bugged by trying to figure out how to finish one of these things.

BTW that birdseye maple used in the neck is beautiful.

Trust me Chip I am in the same situation. It will be insanely hard to finish in a two tone with a rub on stain. That's why I think I will stain it a solid color and then outline the carved part in a different color. It will almost look pinstriped I am guessing. I will disappoint most of the forum guys, but I am just not up to screwing this one up.

Im tellin ya...a little painters tape goes a long way!

i'm not so much into the tele but those cocobolo pickup-rings he has in his other auctions look sexy
