im in between buying the agathis body wood Cort les paul
or the mahogany/alder epiphone les paul standard,
and later replacing pickups and parts.
which of the two diferent woods would be more apropriate for a good bassy and fat les paul sound?please help meeeee
already tried an experiment with a washburn wi64 idol series guitar with anderson H3 and duncan 59but still doesnt sound as fat as a Les Paul sound.
Go with something with a single cutaway and a mahogany body and neck. I'm not sure how the alder top on the Epi will fare. Check out offerings from Yamaha and the earlier PRS SE's as well.
thanks dude but here in Brazil there arent too many options so im pretty much stuck down to these two brand offerings.
thanks anyways
I dont have any experience with Cort, but i do have a Squier Tele custom with 2 Duncan Designed Humbuckers(although im not sure which ones) that is made of Agathis and i can tell you that it is no where near as bassy sounding as my Epi Les Paul.
You can find good Epi Les Pauls. Do not believe the people that say they are all crap. I did have to do a bit of searching before i found one that i liked(tried 6 different ones used and new),but that is true in everything that you will buy regardless of the price. Im my case the guitar i bought is way heavier than any other i played and has a fatter neck.
Good luck and go with the Epi
thanks Anithero.
we have plenty of offerings on used epi´s.
are there any sound and wood diferences between the lp 100,standard and custom series from epiphone les pauls?
As i remember the LP 100 is a bolt on neck,so expect less sustain. I have the standard and love it,but i havent heard or played one that sounds lik it,standard custom or otherwise. You will have to play them yourself to know which of them you like.
which pickups to use on an epi les paul guys?i didnt like the duncan 59 in the neck.too bassy and too vintage.
maybe a jazz neck?or a breed for fast lead runs?
I'd go for the epi les paul gt; they sound awesome with a set of decent pickups (replace the tuners as well)
It's down to personal taste but I'd go for the JB in the bridge (pretty much covers all music types!)
The neck pickup depends on what kind of music you play really??
Seth Lovers are cool but so is the EJ Custom (Dimarzio!!! booooo)
I've owned 4 epi les pauls in the past gt;gt; I still have my original 1st edition goldtop ( it gets played more than my gibson!!!!)
trelf
I'd go for the Epi Les Paul Custom...not the Standard. Much nicer guitar. Better neck joint and better in numerous other ways too.
Pop some Duncans in that Epi LP Custom and you'll have a pro ax.

When i was looking at a new axe, the custom was def. better than the standard and better quality for the extra money.
What about the Black Beauty 3 pickup???
That's a pretty cool guitar for the money.
here in Brazil they havea brand thats getting too much fame for being better value than an epi.they call it SX BY SHELTER.anyone of you know anything bout em?
should i still go with the epi custom?
I have a Cort Matt Guitar Murphy MGM-1 that I bought on ebay for about $230 US. It has a great sound, but needs a little doctoring. Better quality than many Epi Les Pauls. Not a bad guitar at all. The Cort M series has been reviewed positively by Guitar Player Magazine.
