CT3M #1
Issues:
1. someone sawed away at the bridge saddles too much, making the strings buzz like hell and not match the fretboard radius. Easy fix I know, but this isn't the only problem.
2. same person also screwed up the nut and took it out and put another one in. Of course when you do this it mars the finish around the nut due to the finish overlapping the nut on the sides. It was chipped and scratched.
3. finish flaw, under the top coat (pearl white) there was a dark smudge like a dirty fingerprint that they clear coated over.
CT3M rebuild I just received:
Issues:
1. Wiring for the push/pull pot done incorrectly. Doesn't switch the way it's supposed to.
2. They gave me a really ugly piece of ebony for the fretboard, looks like rosewood someone tried to stain black. It's not THAT bad, I could have lived with it if not for.....
3. QC issue, the fretboard dot inlays are off center by a few millimeters. Someone didn't bother to measure or look at it and put it on the neck anyway. It just looks wrong. Yes, I measured, and yes I spoke to carvin about it, they said it was probably done wrong.
4. Ding in the finish on the face of the guitar. Looks like they hit the edge of a table with it or something.
This is not what I expect after waiting months for a guitar from a custom shop and I definately did not get what I paid for.he sad thing is I really like the guitar but I can't live with the flaws for what I paid for it. It really is not a bargain. If I wanted a guitar built like an import instrument I'd just buy a schecter or similar. Which I may add, the schecters that I have owned in the past did not have issues like these. I kind of feel that either Carvin doesn't care or they assume their customers don't have high standards and that stuff like this is acceptable to send out, or even worse, insult our intelligence by assuming we wouldn't notice them.

That sucks, man. You're probably going to just have to buy a Hamer and then go to their factory and watch them make it. That way you can stop them and make them replace something they mess up - which they'd probably do anyway, but at least you could watch.
and i just got my new carvin catalog in the mail today.
other than the cosmetic stuff did you like the way it played?

Yes, unfortunately. Carvin pickups are horrible though. The CT is the only model I like.
That sucks.
Make a big deal. Send it back. I had to send my second one back and when I got the replacement it was perfect.
I hope this doesn't become a trend. I was going to order a Contour super strat; I guess I'll have to be watchful if and when I do get it.
I hear more and more people complaining about them. They do have good prices on OFRs and I was thinking of ordering one from them. Is it safe enough?
Good luck with yours Xeromus
Id try to send it back, you really seem unhappy with it, it will probably bug you forever if you dont at least try to get it replaced or something. goodluck with whatever you persue.
Btw, they banned me from the carvin board for posting pictures of the fretboard.
Seriously, if you're thinking of buying a carvin guitar, don't. Their customer service is a joke on top of their other issues. I've learned a lot from this experience.
i guess it isn't good if gibson is the muse for your QC work or management of discussion boards.....

They're not exactly receptive to constructive criticism over there, are they?
Seriously, I've visited there a number of times and was amazed at how they'd flame anyone who indicated that Carvin guitars were anything less than the ultimate instruments. It was cult-like spooky.

I've had SUCH a negative experience with them thus far. I just don't get it.
Xeromus
They banned you from the forum for posting pics of the fretboard???!!!!!
That is absolutely incredible! What exactly did they say to you?

I've encountered that attitude on almost every guitar brand board. Their favorite brand can do no wrong.
What's interesting though is the different vibe you get from each board too. The Dean board seems to be a hangout for a bunch of metal kids, whereas the FDP seems to be an old folks home. That's one of the reasons I like the Duncan boards here. There's a lot of variety, intelligence, and a willingness to learn.
Sorry, didn't mean to derail the topic.

That's probably my main reason why I like this forum so much - it should be the forum's motto or something
Wow,that sucks Xero.
all i have to say is : send that mother **** back!!!

That's standard operating procedure over there.
Documentation of criticisms is usually responded to by banning. I remember someone posting pics of the electronics in a body cavity that looked like quot;amateur hourquot; after a six pack.
I mean the worst part is that I actually REALLY like the guitar, the pearl white finish is great, and the neck feel is just awesome. But I can't justify keeping it for those reasons alone if there are other issues, plus that I paid a good chunk of money for it.
As if we havn't said it enough, xeromus you have the worst luck with guitars man.
Meh, if I was you, I have a static IP, i'd make accounts over and over, because they can't ban me, and keep posting the same pic till everyone has seen it.I'd send the guitar back, ask for your money back, then call up the fender custom shop :P.

Why I'm probably never going to be Carvin customer again.
