I'm sure a lot of people have already heard about this, but I thought I'd make a real thread about it to keep all the thoughts in one place.
Here's the article
Thoughts?

For those who desire more legal detail:
from : localhost/www.ca6.uscourts.gov/opinion...05a0387p-06.pdf
already posted in the O.T. room, but thats okay with me.
If i was in the market for an LP style guitar, my list would be : 1)prs singlecut 2)esp eclipse 3)gibson LP (that doesn't suck, yes that was a stab at their current QC) ...just goes to show you doesn't it...
I've never played a PRS singlecut, but they make amazing guitars! and more power to them for beating gibson

Oops, don't check the Off-Topic section that much. Sorry about that.
I agree with you, man. The Gibson QC is not up to par these days. Yet, that can be said for most big name companys. My Fender strat had THREE bad solder joints just months after I got it. You'd figure Fender would notice that they were a little loose when they were QCing it, obviously not.
I love PRSes. You pay a lot, but you get what you pay for. My next big guitar purchase will most likely be something like that.

Yeah, thats okay with me. IMO this thread belongs here more than there, but whatever.r
I think it's great. I love Gibson Les Pauls AND PRS Singlecuts, so to me, more the merrier.
I honestly didn't think PRS would be able to appeal and win, but only because the Singlecut is very similar, and I assumed Gibson has ace legal team. I'm glad to see PRS finally won though. We live in a free country, based on a free market, so Gibson should be forced to compete in the marketplace.
It looks like all the $3000 Singlecuts on Ebay just went down $800 in value! LOL
That's good news. Good for PRS. Everyone else has a single-cut anyways.
Hell yeah! Eat **** gibson!
Perhaps now they will start looking inward as how to sell more guitars, and put some time and effort into improving quality control.
Unlikely, but ya can always dream.
Yeah, I always thought it was a spiteful suit, especially when you consider the number of guitars from lesser competitors that are so much closer to the LP look.
Singlecuts are great guitars. It's great to hear they'll be available.
A pleasing victory, though I personally find core PRS products to be more appealing. Now that the SC is back…what models/variations are you guys looking forward to?

washburn idol should definitely be in top three and LP doesn't belong there no more!
go try a usa made idol wi68 or wi70. they rule!
did anyone else catch PRS's humorous dig at Gibson:
Paul Smith, the founder of PRS, stated “We are delighted that the appellate court affirmed what we and the industry have long known: the PRS Singlecuts® are musical instruments of the highest quality that would never be confused with a competitor’s product.”
Thankfully I sold my Tremonti SE just last week!
finally! now PRS can make guitars that i actually think look good again.

My dream PRS....A thick bodied Singlecut Custom, with adjustable stoptail, and Volume/Tone/3 way McCarty wiring. Personally, I wish PRS would stray further from the LP by using the McCarty wiring layout. I don't need 4 knobs.
Hmm...may have to look into one of these...just for kicks now that they won't cost a bazillion dollars...
Are they as thick as a real Les Paul?
is the neck and peghead angle similar?
are they 24.75quot; scale?
And GJ, LOL I *need* those 4 knobs (always keep the tone rolled off a tad for high gain leads on my Gibson's neck pups...)
I'm not sure of the body thickness compared to Gibson, but the Singlecut Custom w/stoptail is thicker than the Singlecut Trem. The Singlecut trem has the McCarty wiring. My ideal Singlecut would be the thicker one with the McCarty wiring, which they do make, but you rarely see them. Nowadays, we'll probably see them coming out with a smorgasbord of Singlecuts = COOL!!!

Yep, and all of that legal publicity may be the thing to inject widespread long term interest in the model. Bring on the variety...
