has anybody tried the quot;ultimatequot; guitar
Yeah, I finally got to play one at Manny's/Sam Ash in Hollywood. I was jonesin pretty hard on that thing! I plugged it into an SWR California Blonde acoustic amp, and got the EQ dialed in quickly. I realized how great it is to be able to play a guitar like an electric, but have it sound like a nice acoustic. I had a smile on my face till the salesguy told me $2300! I'll wait till they drop in value on the used market and get one then.
It really is a high quality electric/acoustic......blows away any Godin or Carvin I've tried.
I definitely want to give one a solid run. I've been looking at them for a while and if the electric tones are any good, it may be a serious purchase for me.
they are great, can get Tele bridge sounds, Les Paul bridge humbucker sounds, Gretsch Hollowbody neck pickup tone.....as well as strat jangle.....add on a great Taylor Acoustic sound.....yep, they are very cool indeed.........but in turn, they cost ALOT
That's one of the things that actually amazed me the most, the price. Some Taylors go for 2 grand plus as it is. To get an acoustic and various electric tones all with Taylors craftsmanship and tone for around 2 grand looks like a bargain to me. The flame ones are the ones for 2300 right? The quot;plain topsquot; are under 2 aren't they?
i'm pretty sure you're right......i remember seeing some with street price of $1998
i played one at NAMM, and spent alot of time listening and talking to the guy who was set up outside the Taylor room with a little Demo stage just for the T5......they are definately awesome guitars
Yeah, a black one with white binding looks classy, and is several hundred less.
here's a pic of a koa T5 - I took this at the factory in April
I still don't care for the switch position, though, from a design and player's point of view
the ad campaign is also a little heavy handed, IMO, although I admit they sound good and are fairly innovative. Still, the Anderson Crowdster is a similar guitar that was made earlier:I play behind a guy that uses that Tom Anderson, through a SWR strawberry blonde amp. So far, it's the truest acoustic live rig that I have ever heard, and the neck on that thing is amazing.
I got the chance to play this guitar and really loved the sounds and playability. However, there were some things that I think were poorly executed.
1. The pickup selector switch sucks. I'd much rather have it on the front of the guitar. Yeah, it's not as appealing visually but I hate reaching up there to monkey with that thing.
2. They make it difficult to integrate when you want to use an acoustic and electric amp together. It seems like they either want you to play out of one or the other. I would like to see a dual jack option so I can route the acoustic tones to an acoustic amp and the electric tones to an electric amp. For me this would simplify the process. Evidently it has a stereo jack so you can do this with an outboard switch but the salesman couldn't figure it out.All things said this is a great axe. I would just like to see more routing options.
